Simple, Demons do not exist and poltergeist is nothing but tulpal energy that has bonded to a spirit think them weak and they fall apart.

Demons are taller, about 6'-3". Poltergeists however average around 5'-7".

A poltergeist is a manifestation of energy. A demon would have an evil presence and could not withstand the touch of God or holy items - a cross or perhaps Holy Water.

Thats a good Question. It depends on what you beleive. Some people believe that other gods and spirits are demons. BUT> here is what I beleive.
A polterguiest is a pissed off spirit that is destructive. He or she is really angry and that energy sets things around them into chaos. This spirit may or may not realize they are dead. They might be really scared and thats just anger on the opposite end of the spectrum.
A demon... knows its not living. It will try to feed of the negative energy of things around it to sustain any sort of power it may or may not have. They actually enjoy hurting things and have really no sort of feelings towards doing something bad to another person or spirit. They fear though too.. So they are not completly stupid.
Both are dumb for the most part.. on rare occasions will you find a smart one, or one that can do any sort of real real lasting damage.
So basically one is parasitic, the other one isn't.

Poltergeist means 'noisy spirit'. A demon has multiple other meanings - fallen soul, ego, etc

Hollywood likes to tell people that the dead are "stuck" here on earth. This is not biblical. The bible says, 'To be absent from the body is to be present with the lord."
Here's what I think, after actually seeing a few spirits. Really I have. I think there are 2 things one can possibly see or be harassed by; demons and unsaved spirits of dead people.
I know I'll be told I'm a nut but I know what I know.
