Isnt this a direct quote from God Himself? "And the Lord said Vengence will be mine."

If so, why do so many of you beleivers mistake the murder and killing in the Bible for JUSTICE, when it is clearly VENGENCE??

Is vengence noble? All loving? Peaceful?

Yes. The Hebrew Bible was written from the perspective of the Jews, who were a tiny powerless minority constantly exploited by powerful kingdoms. They 'talked big' to express their belief that God cared about them and their oppression even though they were small.

I don't know. I agree with you.

>Is vengence noble? All loving? Peaceful?

No. No. No. See above.

Well I'm not sure of the exact meaning of that phrase in the original language, as I only know english. Remember that the meaning of phrases can change greatly when the are translated.

Also, if we start from the premise that God is Just, then all of God's actions must be Just - meaning that God's vengeance IS Justice. Start from the right premise and anything is true.

Vengeance can be noble, loving, and peaceful, if we define god as noble, loving, and peaceful, since these qualities would be defined by all of God's actions. Perhaps it is the meaning we have given to these words that is wrong - not God's actions.

Or maybe this is all worthless idle speculation that brings us no closer to understanding anything about the extremely interesting and complex universe that surrounds us.

Vengeance is His and not ours. The statement "vengeance is mine" is saying that if someone wrongs you, you are not to seek revenge. God is telling us that person will have their mercy/justice in the afterlife, and therefore the vengeance will be his. Is this loving? Yes sir! To protect those who need protection and to enact mercy/justice (Vengeance) to those who do wrong is very loving. This is like a parent disciplining his child. The child does not understand it and it seems mean and unloving, but the parent knows it is helpful and will be to the child's good in the end. We must see the big picture and focus less on this temporal life. For all those whiners out there that are saying you are making this up, it is found in ISAIAH 63:4 "For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come." Not the direct quote you posted...but close enough. Other good ones are found here: Deut. 32: 41 & Ezek. 25: 14.
Peaceful? God never said he is peaceful or to bring peace. Luke 12:51 51 "Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:"

The vengence spoken of is the day of judgement. We live under the grace provided by God through the atonement. Vengence is the righteous judgement of God it is not his will that any should perish. If it were he would not have paid the price of our sin with his death.... I do not duck hard qestion but sometimes avoid a question from one who is not seeking the truth but an arguement.

There is a difference between vengence and justice. Vengence is when someone has wronged you and you "get back at them" for what they did. Justice is when a person who has done something against you is put on trial and given the opportunity to defend themselves against the charges. There is a difference.

God did indeed say this. As the creator of all things, he has the ability to know exactly how they work and exactly what is best for everyone. Therefore, he is basically saying that he will take care of everything and do it perfectly so all we really need to worry about is our relationship with him and with others in a loving way. True justice is noble, loving and peaceable.

I am not sure if that direct quote is in the Bible or not. Sorry I don't know. But it would make sense if it was===like with the first answer you got, that is what I would think if it is in there. I don't think vengeance is like what you are saying it to mean, pertaining to the bible. It could be due to God's anger though, so I can see that happening because when certain people and tribes disobeyed him, he punished them. He corrected them and their people.

The religions of love and of peace have evolved into religions of self-preservation and of retribution.

I don't believe in God, but I also don't find any evidence that God's followers use God's word for much more than justifying what they would have done anyway.

Sadly, this simply gives them permission to follow their more base instincts instead of looking for a higher ethical response.

Vengeance generally leads to more killing so it's best avoided, but I think people have a hard time waiting for God to take action.
