Because their calorie intake is much smaller than their outgoing calories. If they only eat and drink 600 calories a day, but it takes 2000 calories to run your body all day long, then you will obciously lose weight.

They lose weight because their body is hungry and eating stored calories as well as muscle and even organs to stay alive...

It is not healthy and can cause you to die or even be paralyzed ( Do you remember the woman in Florida who was in a sort of coma after purging her meals? She was on life support for I believe 16 years before her husband won a lawsuit to have her taken off & she died.)

The best way to lost weight is to eat small healthy meals multiple times throughout the day & burn more calories than you intake by exercising. This is the healthy way ~ so you body gets the vitamins and nutrients it needs to survive, grow, and keep you from getting sick.

You know Suri ~ I just took a look at the other questions you have posted, and I think that you should go talk to your Mom, Dad, School Counselor, or Anyone...

Starving yourself will not get you anywhere... it WILL hurt you more than good. It is a sickness and all these poor people that have been affected by it will tell you that it is an awful way to live. If you are truly overweight, ask your parents to help you get healthy.

I had a good friend that spent some time in a hospital to try and treat her anorexia ~ it only worked for a little while, the poor girl was just skin and bones and she wasn't healthy and it didn't make her beautiful!

So please, ask your questions to your doctor and don't be afraid. Doctors, Family, Counselors ~ they are all here to help us out.

When your body detects a drop in caloric intake, it enters "starvation mode". Metabolism drops dramatically and stored fats are conserved rather than burned. There are ways to "trick" the body into letting go of fat reserves. It takes approximately 3 days for the metabolism to adjust to new information, so eat very little for 3 days then go back to eating normally for 2-3 days. Metabolism will increase and the body will believe it is OK to burn stored fat as soon as it detects a normal eating pattern has resumed. Then repeat the process. Another possible factor is water weight. If the dieter does not drink sufficient amounts of water to flush it, then water retention translates to pounds.

Um, because the body's organs have to be fueled by SOMETHING. In the absence of a regular intake of a healthy level of food to balance the calories required to burn in order to keep operating, the body will in turn start using up stored fat, which results in lower body weight. If all the fat burns off (such as with an anorexic) the body will start to eat its own muscle. Yes, the body will eventually eat itself.

That's why.

Truthfully they don't lose weight unless they don't eat for a very long period of time. Not eating can slow down your metabolism, which can actually cause weight gain. Starving yourself is the worst way to lose weight because your body needs food to survive and be healthy.

They're not consuming the same amount of calories as they were before. Since 3500 calories is equal to a pound, they're going to lose weight.

But if you don't eat at all, your body goes into starvation mode and doesn't use calories the same way.

eating only 500 calories is not enough you should at least eat 1200 to 1500 calories per day . you should split the calories between eating 6 small meals per day. Drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. google: weight loss and get idea of what to eat and how much to eat. sparks page is a good program to try. Good luck, eating 500 calories per day is not healthy you will end up with health issues.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

The body's goal is to keep you alive, when a person stops eating, the body tries to keep you alive by feeding off of itself in a sense.

first the metabolism will slow to conserve energy, then muscle tissue will begin to deteriorate, the body slowly absorbs the muscle fibers in order to keep the heart, lungs, and brain functioning properly.

then the body, if left un-nourished, will begin to feed on fat cells, kidney and liver functions will begin to deteriorate and the bodymay become septic because the blood is not being filtered properly anymore.

Because your stomach gets use to having a specific amount of food in it. When you shrink your stomach, the less food fits in it and the more weight you lose. That is why many people get lap band surgery.
