I am doing a family tree and have got stuck-

HOLMES Family's all born and lived and died in
LEICESTER

At $28 for a birth, you might not want to use the State records. If you are just looking for information, try LDS Family Search, it may give you some of what you want. Try the GENFORUM too, for each surname.

Call the county clerk's office after you find out what county Leicester is in. Then find out how far back their records go. Some areas of the country, especially the early states, don't go very far back. County records are less expensive than state records & are faster to get.

go on ancestry.co.uk and you can track this. You can often get 10 free 'looks' before you have to sign up. Alternately, I am a member and if you post more information I can look up for you.
