I recently was diagnosed with anal abcess from having crohns disease and had it drained at the hospital. I came home on antibotics and sitzs bath twice a day. On the first post op visit the doctor said it was healing well. A month later, on another post op visit, the doctor said, the "tunnel" had increased from 1cm (from the inital visit) to 5-6cm with the openning of the abcess closed. I don't understand how that can happen and what would cause it. What can I do to help it heal properly without future complications?

An anorectal abscess is a localized collection of pus in the perirectal spaces. Abscesses usually originate in an anal crypt. Symptoms are pain and swelling. Diagnosis is by examination and CT scan or pelvic MRI for deeper abscesses. Treatment is surgical drainage.
