get them back-packs. when you walk them, you can gradually add weight to them. Great exercise and gives them the sense they are working or doing something important.

If you want something that will not betoo much for you to take on at first-try getting back packs. Have your dog carry things when you go out (wallet, water bottle, etc). Make sure you balance the weight on both sides of the body and don't over load at first. I would say 5 lbs to start and maybe work up to 10-but not over that.

Also, try teaching them to help in the house-pick up things that you drop and return them. You can teach them to open cabinets on command to help in the kitchen. I know someone who taught her dog to pick up any laundry that was dropped going to or from the wash-great help with those socks.

Most dogs like to have a task. My dog can "wake up the baby", "keep an eye on the baby" so far. She wakes him for me by licking his feet or neck through the crib bars and she keeps an eye on him by following him around the house (she will sit still and let him show her a book, she can help him on and off furniture, and she licks him if he crys-all while I watch, don't leave kids unattend with any dog). She seems very content since taking on new roles. Once she is old enough I plan to start therapy dog training with her so she can visit nursing homes. That may be another job option for you is your Rotti is social enough (just be ready for some folks to be a bit put off by them). Good luck!

I have seen Rotts do well in obedience competitions, and agility trials. Train her to pull a cart, or take up skijoring. Rotts love to pull, and excel at weight pull competitions. Many do well as therapy dogs, visiting sick children is hospitals to elderly people in nursing care homes. Also (big comitment here) great at Schutzhund work. And there is always herding, if you live in the country.

You can find info about many of these events through www.akc.org & your closest chapter of the Rottweiler club. Good luck!

Rescue dog is a good job for a rottie. Service dog too. I love rottweilers.. good luck on your search.

Rotties are excellent service dogs. I know one who carries his owner's briefcase for her (she is in a wheelchair) and brings her things that are hard for her to reach. Your dog might do very well visiting nursing homes, the patients LOVE to see dogs, and big dogs are easy for them to reach to pet. You will need obedience courses, naturally, and it would be a good idea to take him on an orientation tour beforehand.
My younger Dane will be doing this, once he gets over the puppy bouncies.
