Well a different type of caffeine like soda (I prefer Mountain Dew Code Red) might work, but if you want to avoid caffeine entirely, milk is supposed to help you wake up, although not as dramatically.

Make sure you have a good breatkfast including grains and fruit. The quality carbs will give you energy boosts in the form of sugar. Donuts and other sweets don't work because the energy hits too fast and leaves you in a slump.

You might also need to get more sleep. 7 hours is good for some but many others need 8 or 9 or more hours of sleep. If you keep your kids on a schedule you will still have two hours to yourself at night and be up at 7am with 9 hours sleep.

I have a 3yo and a 11mo so I feel your pain. If the baby is still waking up in the middle of the night you need to work on that by not feeding at late hours and biting your lip while they cry for up to 15 minutes or so. Eventually, they get the idea that it is no use to wake up. If they cry longer, there may be something else wrong and you better check on them.

Green tea has caffeine, but a lot less than coffee, plus anti-oxidants. I would recommend green tea with ginseng--you can either get the two separately at a health food store/whole foods kind of place or get one of many products with them already combined.

Or just go with a natural juice with ginseng in it. The sugar from the fruit juice can help get you going and the ginseng will clear the cobwebs from your mind.

Don't forget to eat something simple w/ protein. Toast w/ peanut butter is a great booster in the morning, too.

And I'm impressed that you're getting 7 hrs. of sleep w/ a 5 month old! Pat yourself on the back!

*Disclaimer* Many anti-depressants react poorly with ginseng. Talk to your doctor before adding ginseng to your diet if you are on any regular medication.

One question which is important is if you are breastfeeding.

There are certain herbal supplements that may help you such as ginseng. As with any vitamin or medication, please consult the pharmacist or doctor to make sure you are suited for this type of supplement. Personally, I take ginseng, but the brand name is ""Gin-Zing" and it is Walgreen's own brand. I love it. I have tried other ginseng products and found that I would get headaches. This product has no adverse effects on me and works great. I also drink on occasion Diet Rock Star because it gives a boost but without being jittery. Congrats on the babies! I feel for you. my youngest is 3 1/2 and although he sleeps through the night, I do not...EVER. One other herbal supplement is green tea extract. One other thing you may try is deep breathing exercises...its 100 percent natural and free to boot!
Best of Luck!

I usually prefer coffee and soda but that is not the only option. You should try to eat fruits before bed-it usually helps a lot. If you're not a big fan of fruits a bowl of cereal or even a cup of milk helps. I personally think that the best thing for you are vitamins B12. They are full of calcium and always help me when I take them. I really hope you find a solution to your problem and Good Luck!!

Cut back on the sugar you put in that coffee and eat a little protein. The less sugar will prevent from the inevitable crash you feel just a little bit after drinking the coffee and the protein really helps you to wake up a bit.

There is nothing you can "take." You need to get enough sleep. Very hard to do with young children, I know. But the only way to treat sleep deprivation is sleep. I suspect you need more than 7 hours. Most people, especially stressed people like moms with little kids, need more.
