The quickest way to lose 14 pounds is to cut off your head. I know; that's pretty gross and it's not very helpful, but I say that to illustrate a point: Quick weight loss schemes are not only very dangerous, they're almost all doomed to fail. If you're 14 pounds heavier than you want to be, there's a reason for it. That reason is you have developed some habits along the way that made you gain weight. So if you want to lose that weight and keep it off you need to develop some new habits. People who look to miracle diets or magic pills are treating a symptom (extra weight) not the problem (what you did that caused you to gain the extra weight). You can't drop the weight using a short-term fix and keep it off. Permanent change is the only way to permanent weight loss.

The good news is it can be done. Here are some tips that will help you get there:

(1) Eat six small meals or snacks a day, which means you should be eating a little something every three hours or so. Eating less at one sitting but more often during the day keeps your metabolism running higher.

(2) Eat breakfast every day within 90 minutes of waking up -- people who don't are 450% more likely to be overweight.

(3) Every time you eat, make sure you get all the important macronutrients (carbs, protein, and fat) into your meal or snack. Best sources of carbs are whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables. Best sources of protein are eggs, fish, and poultry. Best sources of healthy fat are avocadoes, eggs, fish oil, flax seed, nuts, and olive oil.

(4) Avoid fast food, junk food, soft drinks, processed flour/sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and trans fats as much as possible, and keep saturated fat to a minimum.

(5) For half a day once a week, chuck the rules and eat/drink whatever you want -- just don't gorge yourself.

(6) Exercise is key. It'll take you a heck of a lot longer to get there, if you can get there at all, without exercise. So don't make excuses, make like the Nike commercial ads and JUST DO IT!!! If you want to take a walk, be the boss of your house and tell your son he WILL go on a walk with you whether he wants to or not. You're the parent; don't obey your child. Besides, there are all kinds of other exercise programs you can employ from the comfort of your home without having to buy a bunch of expensive equipment (e.g., yoga, pilates, step aerobics, Sweatin' to the Oldies; whatever), so don't let an uncooperative son or lack of a gym membership stop you. Listen to Larry the Cable Guy and "Git 'R Dun!"

(7) Remember, you can't just do this for a while and expect to keep whatever weight you have lost off. You'll have to do this for the rest of your life. But don't look at it as a chore or some kind of prison sentence. Think of it as an investment in yourself. You're worth it, right? You want to be lean and shapely and sexy, don't you? There's NOTHING wrong with that, and spending the time on exercise and eating right is one way of affirming to yourself that you ARE a good person and you ARE worth the time and effort and that you ARE the smokin' hot babe that turns heads wherever she goes -- now let the rest of the world know!

(8) Most importantly, DON'T let every little thing get you down. If you can't exercise one day for whatever reason, don't get totally discouraged and give up. Just climb back on your workout horse the next day. And yes, there will be days when you'll be tempted to stray on your eating plan, especially if you're at a party or a buffet or just in the mood for your favorite tastes-so-good-but-is-so-bad-for-you snack. You'll notice that I didn't give you a tightly regimented eating plan, and that was done on purpose. Don't feel like you have to eat like a supermodel or Hollywood actor or professional athlete every single day for the rest of your life. You can have the stuff you love but doesn't love your figure sometimes -- just make sure eating that stuff is the exception, not the rule, and just don't gorge yourself on it. You'd be amazed at how quickly you'll be satisfied with just a couple of pieces of a chocolate bar instead of devouring the whole thing.

(9) Finally, work EVERY DAY on that positive mental attitude. Keep telling yourself over and over again that you're beautiful, you're a good person, you're worth the time and effort, you're sexy, and that you CAN do it. Even if you don't believe it at first, keep saying it over and over again. As time goes on you'll believe it more and more, and as you see the results of your time and effort you'll believe it even more. As you start believing it more and more, kick up your confidence and strut a little, as if you just found out you're replacing Tyra Banks as the top lingerie model for Victoria's Secret. Remember, you'll achieve whatever you believe, so BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!!

Good luck!

I am not a doctor but I used to be fat and this is how I lost my weight 2 years ago. How long it takes depends on a few things. If you are heavy it will work better than if you are already thin. I would give yourself a week to see results but a full month for all 14 pounds. So here goes....

First, water is your best friend. Try to drink 1 gallon of water a day. Second, working out is only about 30% of losing weight. so if you eat perfectly the weight should fall off. You need to cut out carbs all together, that means no bread, no rice, no pasta, no cereal, nothing. Try to cut out red meat as well. Third, eat 6 small meals a day. Only eat veggies, lean meats, eggs and low fat cheeses. You should be good to go. Good luck.

Well I'd have to say it probably depends upon your metabolism. Is it fast, slow, or just right? I have a really fast metabolism and it is nearly impossible for me to gain any weight. I am 6'0" and 130 lbs. My weight alternates from 133 lbs to 129 lbs. It is easier for me to lose than to gain. I'm also a really active person and I eat like crazy. I never seem to gain any weight.

I would say for you, if your metabolism is just right, you could just do normal exercises. Sit-ups, crunches, push-ups, jump rope, daily jog around your neighborhood. Always stretch before you do anything. Start off slow and work your way up doing more and more of these exercises each day.

Eat healthy, lots of greens, yogurt, protein, healthy cereal...etc. Just anything you feel that won't leave you with excess fat. Hope this helps!

Get a jump rope....and there are floor exercises, such as sit ups and crunches. In addition, avoid fast foods. Avoid sugar based products and sodas. Read labels carefully. If "trans fat" is mentioned, don't buy it. To lose weight quickly, stick with fruits, veggies, and lean ( never fried) cuts of beef, chicken, pork. Fish is good, too. Broiled. Avoid all simple carbohydrates... bread, rolls, pasta, white rice, potatoes pizza,, doughnuts, chips....once you get to your goal, you can work those back into your diet a couple of times a month. Last, watch serving sizes!! Most people just eat way too many servings. Make snacks heathy ones.... low fat cheese or a palmful of almonds. Good luck and stick with your goal.

watch what you eat, drink lots of water, and take your son with you to a park where you both can get exercise. find one that has swings and slides, etc. figure on losing 2-3 pounds each week. good luck! the first week or two you might lose faster because of water weight.

It seems that everybody wants to lose weight. But when most people say they want to lose weight, what they really mean is they want to lose weight without altering their current lifestyle. They want to lose weight without changing the foods that they eat, or without getting up off the couch, turning off the television, and engaging in regular physical exercise. Not surprisingly, there is a huge market that offers shortcuts to weight loss through cosmetic surgery, diet pills, nutritional supplements, and various diets -- such as the Atkins Diet.
There's a growing group of people who leap from one weight loss fad to another, in search of the one thing that's going to finally help them lose weight without having to alter the foods they eat. People don't want to give up their soft drinks; they don't want to give up pizza, and ice cream, and fast food. And they sure don't have time to go out and exercise on a regular basis. So the shortcuts market is absolutely astounding -- $9.4 billion was spent last year on cosmetic surgery alone, and hundreds of millions more were spent on weight loss pills, fat burning nutritional supplements, and low-carb foods. It's a tremendous market, and the public seems to be more than willing to keep spending money on these items, even though the real answers are to be found in something entirely different.
The reality of weight loss is that there are no shortcuts! You can have cosmetic surgery to remove fat from your thighs, or the back of your arms, but if you continue eating the way you've been eating, your body will just deposit the fat somewhere else on your body -- usually in a place that looks even stranger than when it was on your hips. Even if the cosmetic surgery works out for you, it doesn't alter your blood chemistry, your cardiovascular health, or your level of physical fitness. Meaning that you are just as unhealthy after the surgery as you were before, even though you may physically show less body fat. Something similar is true with foods as well. Many people continue to eat a diet high in refined carbohydrates, added sugars, and obesity-promoting ingredients, such as high-fructose corn syrup. Then in an attempt to lose weight, they will take a couple of weight loss pills each day, and hope that those pills will some how counteract the entire day of eating unhealthy, obesity-promoting foods. It just doesn't work this way.
If you really want to lose weight, you've got to do two things. First you have to avoid foods that promote obesity and weight-gain. These are the foods that are consumed by the vast majority of Americans, and are the ones that are the most popular in grocery stores and restaurants. Any food that's processed or manufactured is very likely to promote obesity, or some other chronic disease. Foods made with refined white flour or refined sugar, for example, will undoubtedly alter your blood sugar levels and tell your body to start storing fat. Foods high in saturated animal fats, such as red meat, or foods that are high in hydrogenated oils, like margarine or shortening, will also pack on the body fat, and harm your cardio-vascular health at the same time. Achieving a healthy body weight absolutely requires taking these foods out of your diet for the rest of your life. You can have either soft drinks and processed foods, or a healthy body weight -- but not both. In fact, much of the foods available today in the national food supply are simply incompatible with a healthy body weight, no matter how much surgery you undergo, and no matter how many weight loss supplements you attempt to take.
The other part of the equation here is physical exercise. The human body simply won't shed excess body fat without engaging in regular physical exercise. Physical exercise gives you a much higher metabolism; it helps you burn calories, even while you're sitting or sleeping. It also increases your lean body mass -- especially when you engage in strength training -- and that results in even more calories being burned when you are at rest. Physical exercise, in fact, modifies your body chemistry in a way that helps your body better use refined foods such as breads or pasta. When you eat those foods without engaging in physical exercise, you're automatically going to add weight. But when you have an extremely fit body that engages in regular exercise, such as jogging, swimming, walking, or biking, you can get away with eating a few processed foods. But still you have to limit your intake of processed foods if you want to maintain a healthy body weight.
In my own case, I engage in rather vigorous physical exercise several times per week, typically putting in 10 hours of exercise each week. And even then, I don't allow myself to eat any breads or pasta or refined carbohydrates of any kind. I don't consume breakfast cereals; I don't drink fruit-drinks or consume soft drinks. And what I've found is that if I eat a piece of bread or have a sandwich, then those refined carbohydrates alter my blood sugar in a way that makes me extremely hungry three or four hours later. If I had eaten a high protein meal, or a meal high in healthy fats and fibers, I wouldn't be hungry so quickly. So it is these processed foods that are in fact causing the obesity in the first place. And consuming diet pills or weight loss supplements simply isn't the answer to long-term weight loss. The answer is to look at your lifestyle, examine what you're doing wrong that needs to be corrected, and then have the courage to make the changes that will bring you into a healthy body weight and keep you there for life.
