You are looking for an American Staffordshire Pit Bull? They are everywhere around here. You can't even sell them anymore, we just gave away an 8 month old female. I don't know where you are but we live in Southern Illinois and like I said ~ we had to give away our last one.

Hi I came back to add this website ~ I have noticed there are some people who don't like pit bulls and this offends me. I think that people who are anti-pit bulls need to have a look at this website and then form an opinion... Nothing like someone that doesn't know what they are talking about!

Dont go to a dealer these pups arn't raised in the right enviroment when young and many can have untested illnesses.Try looking on the web,the kc will be able to locate breeders near your area, expect to pay a fair bit aswell american staffs i saw recently were £1,000 pounds.Remember to throughly socialise your pup as they have a strong dominant streak in them towards other dogs and if you socialise her well from 8 weeks old she should grow up to be a good dog.Good luck

Owning a pit bull is more of a responsibility than most other dogs. I know that here in CO pit bull owners are required to carry with them at all times a "jaw pipe"! In case their dogs latch on to someone.

I'm not saying that pit bulls are mean vicious dogs, because they are not, but I do believe that there is some element of mental illness within the breed; when the breed was first created people inbred the dogs, mothers to babies etc, etc. Some of it is definatly in the was that they are raised, but sometimes you can't predict what is going to happen.

There is a nice couple who own a pit, Angel, and brings him to the dog park I frequent. Last week my german shepard growled at Angel and that was it!! Luckily my dog was wearing a muzzle ( shes an old, miserable rescue dog who has a tendency to be a little nippy so I make her wear a muzzle, just in case. She does weight 85 lbs!) It took 3 guys to pull Angel off! His owners are very good about him, I've even seen them just pick him up and carry him out of the park so nothing gets nasty! However, they had pit before Angel. The day that it bit them, the day it had to be put to sleep... You can't mess around with these types of dogs. You need to be prepared to do what is best for the dog and for the people around him...

Now that I've said my piece. If you're experinced with dogs and pits specifically then I would suggest you go to the shelter. The only thing with shelter dogs is that you never know what has happened in their past, so they can have some baggage to deal with. Although sometimes you can find puppies in the shelter. Otherwise, I would suggest finding a respectable breeder, the ones who would NEVER sell their beloved puppies to the kinds of people that would train them to be vicious. They truely love the breed and their dogs and want to see them to go only to the best home! Try petfinder.org you can search local shelters AND breed rescues for breed size of dog and age of dog! Good luck!

Firstly, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier is NOT a pit bull (where do these people get their information from?) and they make very good family pets as long as they are well socialised and you have some understanding of the breed and what they were bred for (as with ALL breeds of dogs) just don't leave them unattended with small children. btw, a Staff is from Staffordshire, so none are technically American.

As for finding a reputable breeder, ask your vet as they should have details of registered breeders.

Contrary to what the ignorant person said, these dogs make excellent family pets. With that said, I suggest checking petfinder.com or perhaps even craigslist.com for a city near you. I also strongly suggest checking local shelters first.

If you are too determined to get that fresh puppy, then I guess I recommend this site: http://www.nextdaypets.com/directory/dogs/sale/1100013/

Why don't you check out the local rescue for the Breed. There are quite a few pit rescue groups specializing in Just Pit Rescues, check the pound, humane societies.

I, myself, wouldn't have one if it was given to me. I have been bitten by several and I've even tried to rescue them off the streets but they always have had to go to the pound. I am an expert on dogs and that is one of the breeds that can be very dangerous.

There are hundreds of recue organizations and shelters. Go to the kennel club web site for them. They have a list of reputable breeders.

BUT go to the rescue first. It's heartbreaking to see what people have done to some of these animals.

Make sure they are not illegal where you live.
These are not good family dogs.
