Yes, it can be interpreted that way. How every interesting that I believe our President and other Bible thumpers have used this very verses to attack Islam. It disgusts me, truly, to use Christianity as a major reason to attack them. Especially when it's teachings come across as anti-war...

Obviously as stated by others, war and killing in general is wrong... the concept of God giving "permission" to go to war under some "special circumstance" or by a "holy creed" is a less evolved/developed idea of God and spirituality. But to answer your question, If you really examine the text, and the context, the author, Jesus, is really telling the story of when the jews were persecuted by the romans during the time of nero. Of course if you want to read it as a future prophesy, then you could see the text as a foretelling that those who believe in the new testement faith (Christians) that they will be attacked by those who say they are attcking with God's permission but in the end, they are mis-guided because in their fervor of violence under the flag of God they lost sight of who and what God is (& Jesus) which is LOVE and love does not kill (even if there is a good "Holy" reason), which is today's circumstance--- so to answer your question, this verse has nothing to do with giving modern day christians the "permission" to go to war Islam, but rather a statement that there will be those who have a faith in God that will be attacked by those who also have a faith in God but have yet to evolve in their spiritual growth by knowing "The Father or me."

The only relation I can see to Islam out of this is that there are muslims in Indonesia, Saudi and many other places who think killing Christians is obedience to God, and that muslims don't know the father or God. I can see how it could be taken to show it's wrong to start any war against Christians, other than that I don't see it.

It could mean that! but, it also could mean that Islam is causing trouble and those people whom you are referring to are starting wars are defending their synagogues from the Muslims who thinks are doing it for their religion.
In your attempt to defend Islam, you have shown that they are doing something illegal, or in another word harmful to those who do not believe as they do in the name of their God and or religion. Also, John 16:3 was not speaking of Islam.

What is so interesting is that the Muslim use the Bible as it convenient to them. If it served them, they ask you to look into it! and if it does not, they say it has been corrupted!
Can't you make up your mind!
And no that verse was not speaking of Islam, it was speaking of people as in general. Unlike the Muslim who attacked the Jews and the Christians in their Quran and called them people of the book, Infidels, kafirs etc. the Bible did not speak of Muslims or Islam. There were none of them then.

It's talkin about christians will be persecuted in the name of God becuase the killers really dont know God.
In which case this sounds like the muslims persecuting christians;they think the have God but they dont or they wouldnt do what they do.

The context is Jesus talking about how people who follow him will be persecuted.
Those who desire to live a godly life & follow Jesus WILL be attacked & persecuted. We are called to respond by 1) loving them, 2) praying for them & for us, 3) being patient & giving room for God to deal with the situations.

Certain non-believers in Jesus started a war with us.
This is a prophecy, and it came true.
