I had a canvas type couch that my precious little kitties (innocent looking gismo looking gremlins) shredded.

Is it true that cats do not claw through microfiber furniture? Anyone with experience? Thanks

They have scratching posts, and cardboard scratchers, but they prefer the couch. Thanks for all the input!!! I appreciate your help.

I have a microfiber couch and they love to sleep on it, but they never claw it. I think it is because it is smooth, and their claws just get caught in it instead of having that nice scratching/tearing feeling that they want. They also do not scratch my vynil (sp?) chair for the same reason, I think.

Mine love to claw the carpet and this crappy old rug I only keep for that purpose. :) They are both nice and textured, which is what they like.

No guarantees, but that is my experience. :) Good Luck!

Cats will claw through just about anything. Put double sided tape on furniture to deter clawing. Provide them with an alternative such as a scratching post. You may want to show them where it is ok for them to do it and spray them w/water when they do it at places you don't want them too. There is also a variety of products out there to protect your furniture, such as softclaws which are rubber tips "glued" onto their claws, or plastic corner protectors.

I am pretty sure that they can get through microfiber if they can get through skin...;)

Are you offering a scratching post or anything to them? Usually they find a good scratching post much more fun than furniture. Also, I keep a coke can filled with pennies and taped back up to shake if they get near the couch. Scares them to the point they learn..each time I go there, I am going to get scared. Trust me, I own a 26-toed cat...lol.

Sorry bout your couch though but please do not ever declaw the little guys. It is unusually cruel to do so.

My cat scratched up my microfiber couch and chair. I got him a scratching post which helped, but he still put a few holes in the furniture. You can check with a groomer about keeping your cats' nails trimmed, which will help. I had one of my previous cats declawed and I wouldn't recommend it. Kitty was in alot of pain after the surgery.

Cats can claw through any fabric if they choose to use it as a claw-sharpening area.

The best bet is to get your Vet to put little plastic claw covers on their claws. They get used to it, it is much kinder than de-clawing the cats, and you can save your furiture.

Cats/Kittens will claw everything in sight. If you want cats as house pets you must have them de-clawed
