My puppy has dry skin and dandruff all the time, and for this I was told to use a mild oatmeal dog shampoo/conditioner. You are not suppose to use human hair care products on dogs because it will deprive the dog of their natural oils and it will probably make the situation worse.
I use this for my puppy and I notice that she doesn't have as much dandruff, but I also brush her daily and use puppy wipes to clean her skin. In doing this I notice that her skin isn't as dry and her dandruff is a lot less and her coat his very shiny. Good Luck.

Some people do but the thing to do is go to Petsmart or Petco and ask about purchasing some conditioner designed for dogs because some human products can make the problem worst. Also, while you are there consider a visit to the groomer they can show you which medicated shampoos you can use as well tell you what they would do for the pet in the salon,

I wouldn't use a conditioner on a dog that already has skin problems. You might make it much worse.
It could be an allergy - maybe food or maybe cleaning products.
Or, which I found with my labs who tend to have dry skin, she needs oil for her skin and coat. Give her a fish oil capsule every day, and you should see a big change in 2 or 3 weeks.

Yes!! just make sure you Don't use Human conditioner!! it will make their fur fall off, 'Mane'n Tail" it's great for them, if your dog has a lot of fur you need too, otherwise your dog will get nods all over and will end up loosing his fur, that's NOT good, it protects them from the heat and the cold! another thing this conditioner you can also use it!! and Trust me!! it works miracles!! Good luck!

With a history of skin problems....no! Talk to your vet or see if you can be referred to a veterinary dermatologist and see if there is any medications, medicated shampoos, etc that they can give you. This really is something you need to discuss with your vet. human hair products could make the problem worse.

Definately! You can either buy a conditioner from a pet store specifically for pets, (I recommend Maine & Tail for horses, it's great for dogs, humans, you name it!), or you can go to your local drugstore and buy a milder conditioner for children or an animal tested product (there aren't many of those anymore). Good luck!

They probably sell it at Petsmart, but I would talk to a worker there before you buy it. If they dont sell it there you could they could probably tell you were to get it. THey should help you find the right stuff for your dog. I would think that people use that on their dogs especially for dog shows, ya know.
