Our last name is Stone, if we have a baby boy... I want his first name to be Miles. Her rule was that we can't know anyone with the name... and we don't know a Miles. However, she doesn't like the name because when you put the first and last together it creates the word Milestone. I didn't intend on picking a name that created a word, but I really like the name. What can I do to convince her? Does anyone else think my choice is a good one?

I think it's cute, maybe let her pick a middle name and call him by that. Because it actually won't be milestone, it will be Miles Jospeh Stone or what ever you pick.

Congrats On the Baby!

Find a middle name for him or put Miles as the middle name!
if you have a girl keep these 2 names in mind:
Riley Jo
Heaven Lee Grace (call her Gracie or Grace)

Interesting indeed! Miles Stone... Wow! ok

Do you think this name would come back to haunt your child when he attends school. You do know how cruel other children can be. Or maybe that name will make him famous... who knows. But maybe you can compromise and have that be his middle name and let your wife pick what his first name should be.

I once (no joke) had a dentist named Les Plack. He loved the fact that he had a name people could remember. I think Miles Stone could work like that for your son, or it could bother him.

Would you like having that name or would it bother you? If you and your wife can't agree, I like the suggestion made by another poster to use Miles as a middle name.

Have a middle name between Miles and Stone. Sort of, Miles J. Stone. or... Miles A Stone. Miles Alex... see which fits your fancy.

No, I agree with your wife. You have to think ahead for your child's sake. Think about any possible initial combination as well that could spell something embarassing. Childhood is hard enough without giving others any little thing to pick on. And they surely will!

Now that you're becoming parents you need to learn that it's not just all about you and what you like. You have someone else to think about ahead of yourself. Start being a good Dad now.

I think that is one of those names that you shouldnt put together.... Other kids will make fun of that. He will be the kid that other people silently think... "what were his parents thinking, naming him milestone?"
