My cat is about 2 years old, and used to be so gorgeous and hyper and all over the place. Since I got her fixed, she lays around and just eats, all day long. I had her on a diet until I moved in with my current roommate. I was feeding her one cup a day and she was doing well, loosing weight. But now my roommate's cats are 13 and 14 years old, and they're underweight. I can not find a way to limit her eating, and I can't put her on a weight control formula because of the other cats. Any ideas?

I have an overweight cat and two normal ones, so I feel your pain. Your best bet is to only have food out when you can physically monitor them eating; either that put your cat in a different room when they are eating. Their food doesn't need to be out all the time, so give he/she portions at different times of the day.
It's not the most convenient approach, but it's the only way in my house!

Hey there! There is a new cat food that i have seen advertised on tv lately and it is a multi cat formula. This is made for households that have some older cats and some younger cats. It helps underweight cats gain lean muscle and it helps overweight cats slim down. It is Iams so i am sure it is a bit more pricey and i am not sure how much you are used to paying for cat food, but it it works it is worth a try. If that isn't possible then maybe you could supplement the older cat's diets with some senior canned cat food. Of course be sure you isolate the older ones while you are feeding them this to the other one one get into it. This will usually put weight on them quicker than dry food plus they LOVE it for a little treat :) Good Luck!

This will go towards your roommate's cats first....
We found a cat starved half to death...the vet told me to feed it wet food and mix in a cap full of vegetable oil. This puts weight on them faster. He also said mixing in a little water wouldn't hurt in case the oil gives the kitty diarrhea.
Get some kind of since diet for your cat. (dry food will drop weight food off of her faster then wet)
I would make it so that no one is leaving food out all the time but instead feeding like I suggested and doing it in different rooms so the other cats cant get to the other food.

Try not leaving food out all day for the cats to eat and seperate them when they do eat. For the over weight cat, keep her on her diet, and for the under weight cat, start splitting a can of wet food per day, mixed with some dry food, and they will gain weight.

Talk with your vet. Cats are difficult to put onto diets because they're prone to something called fatty liver disease. This is one of those situations where your vet really does have the knowledge to help you. S/he will probably have some good ideas on how to curb your cat's gluttony and encourage the others to eat up.
