You don't say how old you are, but I'm going to assume you're in your early to mid teens. From some of what I've seen on here, your mom could have a reason to be concerned. But I'm sure she's raised a reasonable, cautious child. If she has concerns about a particular site, have her detail her concerns. Surf through the site with your mom and show her some of the good stuff (helpful information, suggestions, links, etc.) You will probably run into stuff she doesn't like. Explain it is a free forum, but no worse than what you encounter in school. You know not to share your name/location info, right? With all the pedophile scares, of course your mom's concerned. Try not to hide stuff from her, rather, include her in what you're doing. Maybe get her input on some of the questions posted. When she sees you have sound judgement, she'll ease up. Just don't put yourself in a worse position by lying, sneaking, or hiding anything (can you tell I've been there?) If you have trouble talking to your mom about it, just show her this post, and maybe she can take the lead. Good luck!

I know that this is hard to hear but your a lucky girl! Imagine if your mother let you do whatever you want whenever you want, Im sure you would begin to think that she just doesnt care. It sounds to me that your mom loves you very much and wants the best for you. Does she have any reasons not to trust you? If she does than maybe if you would start gaining her trust back she may back off a little! Trust me when I tell you when you have children of your own you will understand that paternal instinct to protect your children. She is not crazy, there were 1645 young girls that were harrrased, abducted, raped, and stalked last year alone in connection with the internet on sites like my space, friendster, match, cupid, and a few others. So my advice is walk up to your mother right now, give her a big hug and tell her how much you appreciate all that she does for you because when you get a little older and move out your gonna wish you had her right there telling what to do? Its a scary world out there. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Chill, my dad did the same thing. I'm not sure how old are you but I guess you're maybe somewhere around my age. My dad doesn't allow me to chat, create any account on myspace or friendster and he never want me to browse through other site other than for educational purpose. Yet, I still do it. Ok, i'm not trying to be rebel. People around my age gets to do it and my parents are paranoid about it. Cant really blame them, its a cruel world outside. Here's the thing, gain their trust. Try to consider and stand in her shoe, i mean imagine why she's doing this. Then, you'ill understand her. Hey, if you think you can face all the temptation out there and won't get addicted to it (seriously), maybe you should talk to your mom. Let her know whatever's on your mind. Whatever the result is, you've tried your best to earn her trust.

Obviously your going to do things that she doesn't want you to...because your on here. She is probably trying to protect you from the way she was as a teenager. Many times overprotective parents were wild when they were young so they think you will be to if they don't watch your every move. Unfortunately, this doesn't work or I wouldn't be answering your questions. I feel bad for you.

You haven't told us how old you are and that could have a lot to do with it. She is just looking out for you. There are a lot of nuts out there who prey on young children on websites. This particular one seems to be o.k. because you are not talking directly with anyone. Some of the questions asked however are not meant to be answered by a child. Your Mom loves you and only wants to protect you.

If I was your mother you wouldn't be on this site or any other site like it. She is not overprotective, she's a good mother.

I know it seems like she is over protective, and maybe she is! but still she may know more than what you think. Just have her explain to you why you cant be on this site, and calmly answer. That should help. Oh another tip is try to show responsibility, that will show her that you can handle more freedom.
Good Luck!

She's overprotected? Who's overprotecting her? You? Your dad? If she's overprotected, why would she care about you being on here? Peg the Stray what?

It's better to have an overprotective mother than a mother who could care less if you were getting kidnapped or if you were stranded in a unfamiliar neighborhood.
As long as you're under her roof, you have to do as she says.

why don't you let your mother sit beside you and let her see that this site is OK for you to be on. just let her know that people can't get your id or your information on this site if you don't give it out.if she sit down and check this site out she will beat you to the computer every day. she just don't wont anything to happen to you. be thankful because some parents don't care what their child is doing just as long as they are not messing with them.
