you cant stop it that is his anal glands being expressed. They are a natural occurence in animals. They used to be scent glands that helped mark their territory. Now they dont use them like they did before and they continue to produce the stuff. So they need to be expressed every now and then so they dont become infected or abscess. Your vet or groomer will usually do them for you. Good luck, that smell is hard to get rid of.

It sounds like his anal glands are in need of emptying. You can either take him to the vet, or do the job yourself. It's a nasty, smelly proceedure if you decide to take care of the problem, but here's how it's done.
Put on a pair of rubber gloves (believe me, you ARE going to want to do this) and lift the dog's tail. The glands are located on either side of the anus, so gently press in and slightly upward at the three and nine o'clock positions. The result should be a release of brown, smelly liquid from the glands.
If there's no release of fluid or if the dog is in obvious pain, the glands may be impacted. If so, take him to the vet for treatment.

You probably have a small dog and they are more proan to getting compacted anal glands. It is probably infected and you should take him to the vet. They can also show you how to squeeze it out or if you don't want to do it then you can take the dog to the vet every 6-8 weeks. Good luck

You need to express it's anal glands. A groomer or vet can do this for you. You can do it yourself also. Get a pair of gloves, some gauze and insert your fingers into the dogs rectum. There are glands on the right and left. gently squeeze them to get the fluid out. Put your thumb on the outside of the rectum and use your 2nd and 3rd finger to "pull" on the gland.
It's best to have a vet or groomer show you how to do this first.

That's his anal glands. They're full, they need to be expressed, and if you don't get him to the vet (or a groomer who knows how to do it), it's going to smell something fierce in your house.
It shouldn't cost much, it's not dangerous, but it will really, really, really smell. Supposedly, the vet can and will show you how to do it so you can do it yourself at home, but from what I've experienced when taking dogs to the vet, it's well worth the $10-$20 to have them do it. The smell is nearly vomit-inducing, and I have a STRONG stomach.
(A warning sign that this is about to happen again - and if it happens once it will happen again - is your dog scooting his butt across the carpet, kind of like he's "wiping himself.")

Your dog's anal glands need to be expressed. You can do it yourself, if you know how or take him to your vet or grommer and have it done. They, at that time can show you how for future expressings.
It is all just a part of a dogs way of life :-)

He could have impacted or infected anal glands. These are scent glands that allow dogs to "mark their spot" when they do their duty.
Your vet will be able to empty them for you, and may possible be able to teach you how to do it yourself.

It's from his anal sacs, which are full and need to be expressed. Take him to the vet. You can get your vet to show you how to do it yourself.

The best thing to do is to take it to the vet. It could be anything from food poisoning to worms to cancer.

stool acids probably. sounds like he's going to have diarrhea. call your vet, see what he says. in the meantime I'd crush up half an immodium, mix it in his water, and see how that sits with him.
