because if you take antibiotics regularly your body will get immune to them also antibiotics don't treat a viral infection like flu

My doctor gave me nothing when I had the flu, saying that it would go away in a few day but 3 weeks later it was as bad as ever!
It's true that the flu is a virus and so antibiotics won't work. They do sometimes give antibiotics for flu if they think you have a secondary infection due to the flu.
I have the flu jab every year now and have found it very effective.

There is nothing he can give you for the flu. Antibiotics won't work on a viral infection like the flu and too many antibiotics taken over time can make your body immune to them. Later if you really need an antibiotic for a bacterial infection, your body may not respond to them.

Unfortunately, the flu sucks and there is no cure except time.

Good luck & hope you feel better soon.

it seems like the doctor U went to doesn't know what he/she is doing or is just tired of the whole flu thing going around. i had flu like symptoms ( just the beginnings) The doctor gave me three prescriptions- one was for the cough-one was for the aches and pains- the other was for the congestion. SHE also took me off work for two days. I was told it could easily and quickly turn into pneumonia if I didn't do what I was told.

Whats he supposed to give you for flu then, seeing as there is no cure. But you seem to know better.
Why don't you stop being such a hypochondriac and get yourself down to a chemist and buy out of your own money some Beechams or Sudafed.
You've already wasted the Doctors time and stopped someone who is really ill getting an appoitment, now you want him to waste money on you as well!!

Some doctors are strict about medicine and some silly guildlines.
See an older doc that has kids, he probably would give u something.
Get a second opinion or go back and tell him your symtoms are worser so u can get well quicker.
If u dont want to go back, get u some enchinachea tablets that get rid of flu fast.
Get some airborne tablets also.

It is a virus. It will run its course. If you got the influenza vaccine it could have been prevented. Or if you went to the MD at the first start of infection and antiviral med could have been given. Once the vrus has multiplied it must run its course. Ususally 7-10 days to feel better 2-3 weeks to recover totally.

Because there isn't anything he can give you. You've just got to get through it. I know as I'm feeling the same. I'm taking a decongestant, effervescent vitamin C, strong multi vitamins, soluble aspirin, paracetamol and drinking homemade honey and lemon. I still feel like crap, but it is relieving the symptoms and will hopefully mean that I'm better before new years eve.

Because after 48 hours it's to late and you just have to let it run it's coarse. Bed rest and plenty of fluids. Both my boys are just getting over the flu and that is what I was told by their doctor.

Because of the very fact it will go away in a couple of days. Why put you through something that may have risks involved when you can simply just wait it out? Remember everyone reacts (sometimes very) different to medications.

At the moment there are no drugs that actually fight the virus. Antibiotics which most people swear by only kill bacteria . Your best treatment is to try to lesson the symptoms and let your bodies amune system run its course.
