Because they worry more about what others have rather than working for what they don't have.

If we distributed the world's wealth equtably, first YOU would have to give up your computer

Next you'd be living on 3 TV dinners a day. That's basically what the world can provide infood for everyone.

AND you have to learn to EAT anything and EVERYTHING or STARVE.

If all we have is Egg Plant today, that's all you eat.

YOu don't LIKE egg plant, you strave willfully, because it was there for you to eat but you chose not to.

NO more cell phones

No more McDonalds

No more movies

No more MTV

No more X BOXES

They are a WAIST of resources

YOu may only get Water and Electricity half a day, every other day from now on in as we must channel it elsewhere until we can build more plants, which will take about 10 years.

Bill Gates is worth 40 Billions Dollars

If we distributed his wealth among the world everyone gets $700 on a one time basis.

There are no more music or sports superstars. Alisha Keys has been taken to the Rice patties to Pick Rice so people can eat.

There are no more days off. There are no more holidays. The work day is now 12 hours 7 days a week.

And what you get for this is 3 standard size Banquet TV dinners each day, no electricity or water three days a week.

In order to end horrible poverty we have to MAKE YOU POOR so they can be raised to that same level.

There aren't enough steaks, MTVs, XBoxes and Mercedes Benz cars for 6 billion people.

Until there is YOU have to do without and it could take 15 - 30 years before you get your current standard of living back.

Live without a bath for two days now

Live with candle light for three days each week

Live without a hair dryer, clothes dryer.

WASH your clothoes by hand in the sink.

That's life.

well actually there are no poor people in this world. only poor minds.
pangel is right: "you can have all the money in the world and still be poor."
it depends on which standards as well. let say for example a person owns a business and doing well but he is poor in science because maybe he is not interested in that subject.
like wise when it comes to richness in terms of money, you can have all the money but if you are not wise in spending then you might be poor at the end of the day. Remember there are no poor people. only poor minds.

but still your question is some how hard to answer.
because i have in mind the situations of the people in the Africa and some OTHER PARTS of the WORLD where there are people who really has nothing in terms of everything we take for granted. basic important things like food, clean water, proper clothing, education. they don't even have proper homes.

their country is so doomed because of the poor decision their leaders made. with poor mind people became greedy thus corruption happens. developments stops or left unaccomplished. civil unrest starts as the situations worsen. its a chain reaction of destruction from one person's poor thinking or a group's poor planing. it is so complicated that in every part of the world there are people who wants to get so money-rich that they don't care about the consequences. They think of a way on how they would be rich. sell weapons, drugs, porn, all sorts. it dosent matter to them what happens after that. god is not to be blamed because even if u pray all day long and ask for richness, nothing will happen. in the end it is you who will generate your own richness. you will look for a job.. to earn. start a business... to earn.
think of a way out! get paid.

Choice, poor education, acceptance of their current situation with no desire to acquire more. Have you ever been poor? I lived in Honduras for almost 3 years and It really isn't that bad. As long as you have food, water and aren't freezing to death; life is actually quite peaceful and enjoyable. For these reasons I believe most people in the world are poor.

if everyone was rich the earth that would provide those riches would be so raped. Imagine a world where everyone had all they can eat, nice jewelry, big house, three cars, yacht. That does not come from the sky. We would need to clear all nature to give to the people.
On the other hand if there no rich people then everyone would be rich. So even an ear of corn would be valuable
