I mean.. does it help stay on track or make it harder? I am so new at this gym thing! Is it common?

I is whatever you are comfortable with. I prefer not to read or watch tv because I concentrate on what I am doing so that I get the most out of it. I also do a lot of visualizations which acts like a meditation for me. Just remember to keep some variety in whatever you do so you won't get burned out so easily. Good luck.

I use reading as my motivation to go! I tell myself I can only read my books (which I never have time for) or a magazine when I'm working out. It obvioulsy won't work when you're running, but it's fine for the bike or elliptical. Just don't let yourself go slower or slack because you're reading.

i find it hard to read and i heard that if you are going at a fast pace, it could hurt ur eyes...

i agree with KK. i like to concentrate on the task at hand. you get more out of it that way. just like weight training.
