I have a one year old cat who I've raised since I found her and her brothers and sisters floating in the river out back. I kept her as my own. She is rather friendly and loves to be around other cats but dislikes humans. She became extreamly attached to me, and only me. I had to put down my old tabby-cat, who was about twenty-three (Same age as I) just a week ago. Since then, my cat seems to crave more attention than ever! As much as I love her, she becomes bothersome at times. And I was wondering, if I were to adopt another cat, would this help? She is very sociable with other cats and I don't believe she'd have a problem. But I only wish to bring another cat into my house if it'll stop her from constantly bugging me and wanting attention.

Bringing another cat into the house may or maynot help her.
Cats, just like us greive the loss of another family member and they maybe what your cat is doing.
She probably is demanding more of your attention because she misses her playmate.

Keep in mind your other cat was very old and probably very laid back, a young kitten isn't going to be that way...it'll be full of energy.
For a while you'll have to cats that will be demanding of your attention, until the new kitten settles into the family.

So if you're willing to put up with two bundles of energy for awhile then I'd say go for it, but you may want to just see if the cat you have now calms down after she's done greiving her playmate.

Yes, especially if she is used to other cats. My parents had two cats who tolerated each other, but that was it. When one died, the other one went around the house for days crying, meowing, looking all over, and craving attention from the humans in the house and we didn't even think they liked each other! As soon as my parents brought home a couple of kittens from the shelter, that behavior stopped. He just tolerates them, but he stopped searching for the other one and gave everyone who lived in the house a break!

Well, any pet will require attention, but you're right that your cat is probably missing the other cat...my two dogs are always upset when one of them has to stay over at the vet or anything...they definitely notice the loss.

So it might not be a bad idea to add another kitty to the family...have fun picking out a new baby!

I would definitely bring home another kitty, i adopted my Gizmo from the spca and he was a clingy little thing so i brought him home another kitty and he absolutely adores him. Gizmo washes him and sleeps with him and he still lets me know he loves me but hes no longer clingy. I also feel so much better when i go to work knowing that hes not missing me. I am really sorry to hear about your kitty, i'm sure he lived a wonderful 23 years because you sound like a wonderful owner. Just know that he's in a better place and you will see him again one day.

She is craving a companion. Most cats are social animals. If she wants more attention, then it seems to me she is lonely. Get another cat about her age.

Sorry for the loss of your tabby cat.

A playmate would be a good idea. They can play cat games together and keep each other company. I can't believe that you aren't comforting her in her time of need. She just lost her friend. Or maybe you are depressed and she is trying to comfort you? You should be flattered that she chose you.

Yes, I think it is VERY important to get her a feline friend as soon as possible. I would suggest a male instead of a female as they seem to adapt more quickly to their new environment. I would get a younger cat who is more playful like she is, too. I think she is grieving the loss of her friend and is trying to fill in the void with your human contact. I think a new friend for her would make her happier and more independent. Good luck!

You should probably try to find one of the relatives of the cat, but otherwise just adopt one. Get a kitten, not an adult.

Please only get another cat because you want it. It is something that will not matter to your cat now or ever. Cats are very interesting animals and yours probally senses your loss. It will adjust to the new circumstances whether or not you get a new cat.

sounds like it would be a good idea. considering she is friendly to other cats. and yes it should take some of the attention off you and put it on her new playmate :)
