I recently bought a Sony Handycam HCR-HC26. It has been recording fine, and i can play video back on the camera. But when i hook it up to the computer via USB cable. The computer does not reconize the camera. I have installed all the software that came with the camera. I also bought a firewire cable, but it wont fit in any of my ports, please help!!!

I have that model. Download the latest driver from Sony. Check your OS version. It shows up with Movie maker 2.0 as a capture device and will allow you to record directly into your camputer as well as with Roxio Easy Creatores and Pinnacle. You can also buy a capture device and use the s-video composite output.

you bought the wrong firewire or may not have a high speed port available on your computer.. Re-boot your computer and make sure you have the camera turned on, it may recognise it then.
