if you have a cold you can take a hot toddy (whisky+warm water+suger mixed together in a glass) to raise your temperature and sweat the cold out of you, my question is why does a mixture of whisky, warm water and suger raise your temperature,none of the ingredients on its own will significantly raise your temperture

The heat from the drink will internally raise your body temp, but this is a misnomer. You see, alcohol, while making you feel warmer, actually lowers your body temp, so it's a contradicting effect that may be as counter-productive as it is effective in raising your body temp internally.

the same reason drunken raisins help stop pain of arthritis. Some of those old remedies just work.

Sounds like I am pulling your leg, but I been using those raisins for years, and it works!
