The only advantage here is you save a few bucks. Disadvantages are less space and comfort on your flight and maybe no service at all. You get what you pay for.

The only advantages to low cost and no frills domestic airline - cheap fares and because its cheap, almost everyone travel by air.
Most airlines compromise comfort and service
(excuse: cheap tickets)
Its not really convenient either, on my experience. I have to walk from plane parking area to airport because they don't have to pay on (walkways connecting to planes)
Not all no frills airline is like that, depends on the airline's policy and how they do their business
But if there is more low cost and no frills airline, competition arises and airlines would ofcourse, raises the standard to attract customers.

AirTran Airways is a great low cost airline to fly on! The only disadvantage I can think of, as regards to them, is that if you wait to buy your ticket(s) (like 4 or less days prior to your departure) you won't get a "low" fare and of course, they only provide a snack not a meal so if you're hungry, just grab something to go to eat on the plane. Their fares start as low as $69 (one-way) per person! And not to mention during sales, they can go as low as $39 one-way, I've even seen $29! As for the comfort, they only fly 717 and 737 aircraft so it's pretty comfortable and their people are very friendly! They also provide xm satelliete radio on all their flights and complimentary head sets which you can keep. Fly AirTran Airways!

From my own experience I chose not to fly on the low cost and no frills airlines, as really they only advantage is the lower cost. You are more crowded on the aircraft and really they are not more convenient. I would rather pay more money and be more comfortable then cheap!

Due to the financial hardships of the major carriers in the US, there seems to be little difference between the low-cost carriers or the majors in terms of service, comfort, etc. I've had better service on JetBlue or Southwest (low-cost) then on Usairways or Delta(majors). My father worked for USairways, I can remember as a kid what real service in the air used to be like.
In other countries, I understand the difference is huge. British Airways still offers full service (drinks, meals on certain flights, etc.) while an EasyJet might not offer anything other then a seat. The large carriers offer class service (first, business, coach) while the low-cost tend to use single class (all coach)

It's simple. You get what you pay for.,, most of the time.
Personally I like the discount carriers. I think there is a place for them in the market place. Just because you pay full fares doesn't mean you get the best service either.
In Canada they have Air Canada and West jet. While Air Canada is supposedly the better airlines, their service sucks. This Westjet is a discount but offers better service and a great attitude.

Major disadvantage is you have to pay for excess baggage (usually anything over 15Kg) and a case with a few clothes in it is about 15Kg so no room for any shopping. Some airlines like Ryanair you sometimes have to pay for ALL baggage because when I selected a cheap ticket with them I was not allowed any free baggage. The custome service is non-existant I even found them rude.

reward are that they generally have extra moderen plane. additionally a lot of them use secondary airports that are much less congested. for occasion Southwest makes use of Chicago halfway Airport extremely of O'Hare. damaging aspects comprise which you will desire to purchase a cost ticket on their website so which you would be able to not evaluate their cost ticket cost with different airways in case you went to a return and forth website such as Expedia or Kayak. additionally low value airways do not fly to as many places as a results of fact the legacy vendors. finally many low-value airways do not better half up with different airways or code-proportion. One great thing approximately flying a legacy service such as United or Delta is which you would be able to earn United or Delta of you fly a larger half airline of their respective alliance.
