So I got the Sims 2 as a Christmas present, but when I try to play it a message comes up saying" "Failed to find any directX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! PLease make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the lateset drivers provided by the manufacturur. The application will now terminate." I tried to download the DirectX thing from the microsoft website, but it still did this. Then I did some research and discovered the problem is because I have out of date video cards. They gave me some website to go to, but thay didn't help becuse I have NO IDEA WHAT SO EVER of what I am looking for. Then I did this thing that tells you about your computer and found out that I have a: Intel(R) 828106 Graphics Controller (Microsoft Corporation) When I searched this on the internet I didn't get any results. HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I tried that thing where you go to my computer, ect, and update drivers but my computer told me that it could not find a better match for drivers than the one I have already.
I have a Dell computer, and I think its a 2001, or 2002 maybe not sure. But I DO have Windows XP software for it. Can anyone PLEASE provide me with a detailed answer of what I can do to fix this? And if I need to buy or download anything include a website, price, store, ect! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!

What it's saying is that the features on the video card you have in your computer aren't up to spec to play the Sims 2.

You'll have to physically install a new video card (since Intel video cards are embedded) to play this game.

Is this is a laptop, sadly you'll be out of luck - but upgrading a desktop is a bit easier.

Did you try Microsoft's Website?
Also, does your system meet the requirements of the Sims 2 game? Check the back of the game and make sure you have the correct memory, RAM, processor.....etc. And if your system is compatable then goto Intel's site or Microsoft's site and go look in the Technical Support section. You should be able to ask questions and see other questions people asked.
If none of that works you probably need a new graphics card!
Good LUck.

It sounds as if you have an on-board graphics controller, which cannot be updated. You will need to purchase a graphics card for your computer. Your first step is finding out if your computer has an AGP, PCI-Express, or a free PCI slot, so that the graphics card can actually be inserted into your PC.

>>> If you do not know what you're doing with all of this, contact a local computer repair store and ask if they'll install a "graphics card" for you. Ask them if they have any for sale. If not, Circuit City has some that will work. You can expect to pay about $100-200 for a mid-range grahpics card. However, if you do not know what format your computer uses for a graphics card (AGP, PCI-Express, PCI), you will need to take your computer to the repair place first and ask. They will install the card for you, for a small fee.

Sounds like you have an onboard video controller. If the card isn't DX 9 compatible (ie. too old), there is almost zero chance of the program running on your pc. You will need to purchase a newer card. More infor on the system you have would help too. If your system has an AGP slot - buy an APG card. If not, you will have to buy a PCI video adapter. While PCI might not perform as well as AGP, if there is no AGP slot you're left with no other choice.

Hope this helps.

Intel huh? Probably integrated video. So it sounds like the game does not like the current driver either... talk to your computer manufacturer and htye should be able ot help you get the latest driver. Also, try downlaoding the latest version of DirectX.

Update:

If this is a desktop computer, you can still find PCI (not PCI-express) Radeon and Geforce cards for that type of slot... it's much less able than a more mordern type card but should provide the compatability you need.

You have the same graphic card as I do. But my drivers are fine. I use direct x 9 loads and had no problems (except watching tv, but thats a different story...). Try:

http://www.intel.com

But I don't know how else to solve your problem. I seem fine, but for how long? Only one game I have come across has problems and that is Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. Maybe you and I shall have to update our cards.

You found your graphics controller...you need the graphics card to know which drivers.

Try running Windows Update and see if it finds new drivers for your hardware.

Otherwise, check Device Manager for more information...it has a button in the Properties for locating updated drivers!

hmm... Some high-end games require latest graphics card as a MINIMUM requirement, and i think it is the case with Sims 2 also. Check the Following URL with the list of supported Graphics Cards, and your Intel Graphics card is not supported.

But, there should be some way, you may get around this.. keep looking..

Do you have the min requirements for sims 2?

CPU Speed: 1.2 GHz or faster
Memory: 256 MB of RAM or higher
Hard Disk Space: 3 GB free disk space
Video Card (ATI): Radeon 9000 or better

Probably short in the Video card dept to get that error message... next time list your spects so we dont guess, thanks.

Look at your display adapters in your device manager. You can find this by going into control panel and device manager. It will tell you what your graphics card is and then you can go to that manufacturers website and find newest drivers for that card.
