If you are talking floor tiles they are not really a problem because there is no fiber escaping into the air for breathing. If you try to scrape them off the floor and raise a cloud of asbestos dust that is the problem.

If they are ugly you can cover them with other tiles or a carpet.

It depends on what sort of tiles your talking about. Really bad asbestos is friable (in other words, if messed with it will "dust" or becomes really small particles that you can breath in) and needs an expert to remove. Floor tiles do not tend to be friable--but then again an expert would need to look at what you're talking about. Generally the asbestos is in the gluely bottem.

Good luck.

Asbestos tiles are not dangerous until you disturb them,if you try to scrape them up or tear them out they become friable or in other words the fibers are seperated and become airborne, when you breathe them into your lungs they stay.Dont spray with water
in an attempt to keep the fibers down, all you do is to relocate them to wherever the water falls too. Then when you walk over that area you disturb them and they become airborne again. You must have an asbestos abatement contractor either remove them or have them sealed and cover them up with carpet or other flooring. If not removed the tiles must be sealed so they do not become airborne.FYI- Most asbestos tiles measure 9x9 inches square.Any other measurement then you are probably okay.

The primary danger is when it gets to be dust or small airbore particles. Being in an enclosed space could pose problems with ventalation. If you are going to try and remove them, you will need to hire a service that can do it properly, and dispose of them. Or you can build over them with no danger (this is what people typically do)

The thing with asbestos is getting the fibers airborne. The pros spray the asbestos with water or other solution so to cut down on any airborne contamination.

Check with an asbestos removal person for specifics.

This is not something to ignore. It is also not something to do yourself. It is pretty dangerous. The dust also will be around for years so it needs to be removed too. If you DIY, you will leave a lot of dust.

It takes decades to see the results of exposure. Why take a chance, get it removed professionally.
