Fairly simple:
You paid with cash, if you return it WITH YOUR RECEIPT you get cash back. up to certain amount. If your purchase is over $500.00 you get a gift card or a corporate check in the mail 2-weeks later. No way around that policy which varies on each retailer.
You paid with cash but you don't have a receipt. you get a gift card. No way around that policy.
You pay with a personal check and you return it., You get a corporate check in the mail 2-weeks later. No way around that policy.
You pay with a credit card, AND KEEP THE RECEIPT they will credit the amount back to your credit card. No gift cards, No corporate checks in the mail 2-weeks later. No way around that policy.
You pay with your credit card and you LOST THE RECEIPT, you have no other choice but to seek the assistance of your credit card issuer. The retailer cannot do anything, UNLESS... is their private store brand credit card. then you will have one solution, which is exchange only within 14-days after purchase-- no money back.

They will give cash back for a cash purchase with the receipt. They will credit back the same credit card with a receipt. (in both of these cases, within 90 days) But, they will not turn a gift card into cash.

If you have the receipt that documents that you paid for the item you might be able to argue the point. As you read below, the policy at Target is to provide you with a gift card with an equal amount to the cost of the good.

If you have a receipt then they would most likely give you cash back. I f you don't then they will either let you exchange for something of the same value or give you a store credit/gift card.

Depends if you have the reciept.
If you have the reciept ~ they will give you your money back in whatever form you paid (Credit = Credit / Cash = Cash)
If it was a gift (no reciept) ~ you will get a gift card with the current sale price.

if you buy it with cash, and return it with your receipt you shouldn't have a problem getting cash back! As long as you don't buy it with a gift card

You give whatever you want to. Gifts are completely optional anyway. Anyone who complains about a gift card or any gift should be punched in the throat.

do you have a receipt? If you don't have a receipt they will NOT give you cash back, they might not even take the playstation back. If you have a receipt, they should give you back the money in the same way you paid for the PS2. Good Luck.

If you bought it with cash or a debit card, you will probably get cash back.
If you used a credit card, they will credit your account.
If you do not have a receipt, you will get a gift card, and only for the CURRENT price of the item.
