hi Betty,
I was tempted to take a humorous stab at your misspelling of racist but decided to leave that up to others, I'm sure you are tired of it by now.

I can totally sympathise with you for being upset about racism, its an ugly, mean business that hurts everyone. Perhaps the largest group of victims of racism are the racists themselves.

Racism is a disease, so it is sad that so many people choose to embrace a philosophy that makes them sick. But racism is also a natural part of our evolution as a species and it wiil take a great deal of work on our part to change it.

Racism and other forms of bigotry based on gender, age or other physical characteristics, or based on culture, religion or other lifestyle choices is prevalent in our cultures and societies because it provides social benefits to the members of groups of people who share a particular form of prejudice in common.

One benefit is that all social institutions must define themselves and their members clearly. Using race as a classification of who may or may not be members of a group is therefor a simple way for the members of the group to identify themselves.

It is important for us to identify ourselves as members of a group. It doesn't take much effort or intelligence to use race as a means of identifying ourselves with a group. So lots of people find it easy to be racist and align themselves with other people who make this lazy sort of choice.

It is a natural choice to make because it is based on easily identified characteristics that cannot be altered. Bigotry based on values and beliefs is a more difficult sort of prejudice to have because people can lie about what they value or believe. So racism is very popular because there are few ambiguities, it is difficult for must of us to lie about our race.

Aside from the value of racism as a means of identifying with a larger group of people, racism is valuable in social institutions because it provides an easy outlet for venting anti-social feelings and behaviour. All groups of people suffer from internal stresses, conflicts, antagonisms, etc... and redirecting the potential for violence among the members of the group by setting up another group of people as targets for hatred that have been legitimized as acceptable targets by the group allows a lot of the stress and tension that arises among the members of the group to be directed outside of the group where it is less likely ot bring harm to individual members of the group and less likely to harm the group itself.

These two important social dynamics, identification with the group and the sublimation of potential violence among members of the group, are extraordinarily valuable to the success of the group and the wellbeing of the members of the group. And, while these important goals for the group may be achieved in many more loving and peaceful ways, they will always be very easily provided for by prejudice, hatred, bigotry or racism.

To end racism we will need to build societies which offer simple alternatives to the groups formed by prejudice, bigotry, hatred and racism; we will need to make those alternatives attractive enough that people will choose to face the challenges of belonging to a group whose membership may seem ambiguous and uncertain.

We will need these new groups to have healthier, more rational options for dealing with internal dissatisfaction, rivalry, hatred or other dynamics that can cause members of the group to attack or harm one another, so that redirecting potentials for hostility or violence defuses the underlying feelings of inadequacy, jealousy or fear that lead to hostility and violence.

When we can successfully re-align everyone to identify with social groups that practice these safer social skills we will finally be able to end racism and other forms of prejudice and bigotry.

This is the only way we can end the hatred and misery that arise from racism, bigotry and prejudice.

Meanwhile, we must love those among us most afflicted with the kind of self-doubt and inner troment that inspires them to hate other people, because hating other people is a symptom of an illness that does incredible damage to the people who hate. That illness is self-hatred, and only someone who hates themselves will embrace hatred for others. They embrace hatred for others to redirect their self hatred away from themselves toward 'safer' targets. They require racism or bigotry or prejudice to define what groups of people their society will safely allow them to vent their anger and hostility upon.

So, not only will we need to provide alternative social groups for people to identify themselves with, but those new groups will have to teach all of their members the most important thing of all, unconditional love, starting with love for ourselves.

To teach love we must be loving. So hating anyone for being hateful, prejudiced, bigoted or racist is self-defeating. We only wind up being just like those we choose to hate. We become prejudiced and bigoted toward hateful people and therefor we are hateful and must hate ourselves.

To heal our world of hatred, bigotry, prejudice and racism we must love those who hate, including ourselves.

Perhaps that is why god does not scrape racists from the face of the earth, perhaps he loves them, we are all his children.

>Why does the most awful raciest scum claim to be a child of God?

Most believers in God (myself included) deceive themselves about him to some degree. They assume he would get their back and that he thinks like them. Many times, as in the case of people who think the Bible justifies their racism, we are wrong.

>Why don't God scrape raciest of the face of the Earth like bug poop of a windshield?

Because he loves them and wants them to change their ways and start obeying and living for him. It's happened before and will happen again. For example:

Well, I will tell you that racism comes in all colors. And in all colors, it is wrong. I've seen some very racist comments coming from those that insist Jesus was black and that the Bible oppresses black people. It really burns me when scripture is used as an excuse for hate by ANYONE. The Apostle Paul said that "God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him (Acts 10:28,29). The bottom line is it was Jesus blood, not the color of his skin, that is responsible for our salvation. 1 John 1:7 says in part "the blood of his son cleanses us of all sin."

Why doesn't God "scrape racists" or any other horrible people off the face of the earth? He will. It just isn't his time yet. The attitudes you are seeing in people are proof that the prophecy at 1 Tim. 3:1-5 is being fulfilled in our day.

Have a great day.

Special comment for Nondescript: Hi. With all due respect, I have studied the Bible for 35 years. I am afraid your reference to the "ethnic cleansings" in the Bible is completely inaccurate. The elimination of certain peoples as referred to in the Hebrew scriptures had absolutely nothing to do with their ethnicity. It did, however, have everything to do with the elimination of a people who practiced all kinds of heinous things in the name of their God/Gods. These things included child sacrifices in the thousands, as evidenced by the archeological record. Don't take my word for it: There is all kinds of archeological evidence that attests to this. In fact, archeologists who have worked on sites in Canaanite cities have wondered why God did not destroy them sooner than he did. I could give you actual references but I think if you are sincerely searching, you can do a little digging on your own.

Another great question. Why do bad things happen to good people? I believe it always we be groups or hateful people on earth. Even when Jesus was here there were those who hated him and wanted him dead for no other reason but that he brought the truth. Those people are just here to prove that the glory of God still exist because though His grace and mercy, we can love them and forgive them. Those who know the truth know that God is love. Even the bible says that those who cry "lord, lord" are not His children. Their day will come and we won't have to left a finger.

Religion tends to breed intolerance.

Religion keeps strong by encouraging in-group compassion and out-group intolerance. Even those religions that claim tolerance seem to do so only to the point where they have a chance of converting someone. After that it changes from "Love thy enemy" to "Don't throw pearls before swine".

The Quran has many passages saying how bad Jews and Christians are. The Bible, especially the Old Testament, has many stories of ethnic cleansing. The New Testament is a bit softer on the point of tolerance, but most Christians don't really follow tolerance. They might remember the story of the "Good Samaritan", but they'll have no clue what the significance of a "Samaritan" is.

Religions are based on spouting authority of beings who aren't around. Therefore, they have to use emotional manipulation to exert that authority. This means that they really have to discourage their members from talking to those who claim a different authority. So, no matter how tolerant a religion claims to be, it can't be that tolerant, in practice.

This is amusing coming from someone who answered a question with "You think Christians are responsible for stupid bums who wont take care of themselves. Christians do much for the poor but their first duty is to God."

Hate is hate and becomes no one. Do you not hate this person the same way you say he hates others? I pray you both find unity with God in unconditional love within your heart. Fear turns to anger, anger turns to hate, hate leads to insanity, then ,insane with hate we try to destroy that which we fear.As the colors of the rainbow are contained within sunshine, so to we are all one in the light of Gods unconditional love. The FLAW i see in others is ALWAYS my own flaw reflected back at me.

If he claims to have had particularly actual touch with a god and with angels, he would desire to be on medicine. that's called a fantasy, a symptom of psychological ailment, and no one with an untreated psychological ailment would desire to be entrusted with the care of youngsters.

Satan is the king of lies. Would you expect his followers to be honest? Of course they are going to CLAIM to be of God, for thier purpose is to destroy others' faith. It won't work if we don't let them. The Bible says you can tell a follower of Jesus the Christ by the fruits of their actions. YBIC
