It is good for buring calories, go for a multi stage program on the machine (one that changes speed, incline, decline etc. As a flat out jog can be boring ad could put you off. A great tip is to print of a A4 piece of card saying something like= I can do it, I can reach my goals or some other motivational saying. Then place it on the treadmill covering the time, etc. (Only afer yu have set the program etc ) Ths may sound daft but try it, without the card you will be constantly wtching the clock wishing it would all end. But with the card the workout will feel a whole lot easier.

Yes, so is weight training, because muscle carries on burning calories for several hours after you stop. If you get bored on the treadmill, get a pedometer (electronic, not pendulum) and have a look at the website

It is ok as is any exercise. The easiest and best way is to stop overeating and cut out the sugar, fat and salt. Treadmills and other leg exercise machines often cause other problems such as knee and ankle injuries.

It is if and only if you go rather hard for more that 20 minutes. Any exercise that lasts less that 20 minutes has only burnt the glycogen that was in your liver. If its fat you want to get rid of, use a bike, it needs less energy so you can go slowish for ages, and burn all the fat you need.

It depends if you are running or walking, but I found you burn calories twice as fast on an elliptical machine.

I personally think a better idea would be to cut back on calories and jog in place a lot... it burns a bunch of calories, and you can do it anywhere. :)

Yes, put you have to put the effort in, don't just dawdle along at 1 mile an hour.
Word of warning about inclines, if you increase the incline upwards you'll bulk up the front of your thighs. No-one told me that until it was too late...
