Many of the previous answers are great, and I'd like to add one little thing: Chances are that you are homesick because you tend to compare everything with the way things were/are back home.
You need to start anew, do not compare all the new things you learn/visit or try with the ones you used to know, and try to see the good points in every new thing you are experiencing.
Don't forget that travelling is truly a wonderful blessing and opportunity for you to learn tons of new things, and not necessarily something that only keeps you away from home! Don't forget to smile: things always look a whole lot better when you let them ^_^.

I am 38 with 4 kids and still get homesick. What I find works a little bit for me is to bring something from home. Like a pillow, or a stuffed animal. Other than that...not much works. I have never been able to get rid of it 100% and have had it all my life.

Keep in touch with people at home. Make new friends wherever you are at now. You can't really get rid of homesickness, if it was really home to you, but you can make it diminish. Don't think about home too much, that usualy makes you want to be there more and more. It's like looking at toys in a catalogue. The more you look, the more you want. Hope this helped.

Call home & talk to people who tell u nothing is going on there but the same thing. That way u know u not missing out on anything. Just keep busy wherever u are & dont focus on home. Not really a solid way to rid the feeling. Home is home & there is no place like it. Just go home & that'll solve it every time.

Write! Write letters to those you miss. It will help you to understand the emptiness and allow you to soldier on with whatever needs doing. It will also help you to feel more connected -- not only with those loved-ones, but with yourself.
Homesickness and loneliness are normal and natural. It's if/when they start to weigh and prevent you from advancing that it can become an issue.
Please try correspondence or even just chronicling in your own journal, for yourself. I promise you you'll feel much lighter.

lots of good suggestions already, but the best thing to do is stay busy, and get comfortable. if you feel that your new environment is your home now, you're less likely to miss your old home. getting out and making new friends is a great way to have fun and keep your mind off the things you miss. focus on your new life in your new environment. of course, you want to keep a special place in your heart for the family and friends you already hold dear, but don't let missing them stop you from enjoying yourself where you are now.

A well balanced mental health diet. A healthy rounded lifestyle. Get 6-11 servings of friends, who are supportive, each day. Get 3-5 servings of personal time alone to take care of yourself each day...like a bubble bath, reading a book, meditating. Get 2-4 servings of the fruits of life each day, like the simple pleasures, like watching the sunrise, like listening to the birds, exploring your new surroundings etc. Be sure to get 2-3 servings of healthy meals each day, the substances key to good mental and physical health will sustain the emotional life too. Call home, write home, or think of home life sparingly each day. Too much sweets can be unbalanced.
My thoughts are with you. It will get easier.

Get yourself off the computer and check out where you live. Walk the malls, parks, and sites of your area. Seek out a body of believe you have a common faith with.
Get involed with those around you. Talk to that person behind the counter or when in store.
In short get out of your comfort zone this world is full of great people but you got to knock on few doors to find them.
