I have a Dell GX1, 356MB RAM. 550Mhz, and it runs kind of slow. I'd like to put a higher end machine together for it, but I'm wondering what others have done.

Your computer is more than enough. My old P3 600Mhz laptop with 256MB ram was enough for it. That's if you install it mind you. The live CD runs a bit slow.
