I have a Bichon Frise and I would say that they are NOT good for allergy sufferers because they need grooming every day and lose lots of loose hairs when grooming. Any dog that does not naturally molt (like a Bichon) will need regular grooming to keep their skin healthy. ALL dogs lose hair, there is no such thing as a Hypo-allergenic dog!

A child that already has allergies can develop new ones, and I'm afraid that kids often develop an allergy to the family pet. So if you buy any pet with fur your daughters allergies may get worse.
You can cut down the risk by grooming the dog every day and bathing once a month, but there is no breed that is allergy free. Its not just the fur thats the problem, its the shed skin as well.

Boxers are really cute and are very gentle and put up with a lot; however, I would not recommend them with someone who has allergies. My boyfriend has a boxer and he tends to shed a lot around the house (which is surprising for a dog with short hair). He also has a lot of dandruff that comes up with I brush him. I have allergies and when he sheds I have to cover whatever he lays on with a blanket and brush him a lot to get the dead hairs out. Good Luck.
P.S. I don't know exactly what breed to recommend but I have a poodle mix dog and I get her groomed every couuple of months and she has not been much of a problem for my allergies. She does shed a bit, but not a lot (since I groom her). Good Luck.

A " hypoallergenic dog " has a lowered or reduced tendency to cause allergies or reactions to allergy suffers. No dog is 100% hypoallergenic! People with allergies react to different breeds of dogs differently. Each person has a unique allergic threshold.
The dander is the problem to people with allergies not the hair. Hypoallergenic dogs still produce allergens but certain coat types will produce less than others. Dogs with two coats produce less amounts of allergens for instance. The hairless varieties can even produce enough dander to effect highly allergic people.
Poodle, Terrier, Maltese etc.

It depends on the severity of the allergy. Talk to your childs doctor first. If they clear it try to a non-shedding low dander breed like a Poodle (which has a variety of size) or shih-tzu. There are alwasy allergy shots for your daughter as well. Talk to your family doctor and see what breeds they suggest would be suitable for your home depending on how allergic the girl is to them.

Here is AKC's official list of best breeds for people with allergies: http://www.akc.org/news/index.cfm?article_id=2588
I love Boxers & have had them for years - sorry to report, but they REALLY seem to bother people with allergies badly. If it is the Boxer personailty you like, I would then suggest (of these approprite breeds listed) the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier,Portugese Water Dog, or Standard Poodle - these also have fun-loving, happy personalities. Read all the info on each to find which will suit your household best, then find reputable breeders also at the AKC website. Good luck!

If she is allergic to dog fur, then get a dog with hair(yes there's a difference.) This includes, any type of poodle, a Yorkshire Terrier, a second generation Labradoodle(or any second generation dog and poodle mix),Bichon Frise or any other dog with hair, if you research it, you may be able to find all of them. I'm not sure about the Boxer, though. These dogs have hair, so basically, no shedding like dogs with fur. Well, good luck.

Decide on a breed you like then find a sympathetic breeder or owner who will allow your daughter to spend time with their dogs so you can find out if she can tolerate that particularl breed.
There is a wide variety of hypoallergenic breeds - see the link below. Remember all these so-called "doodles" are mied with other breeds which may well produce an allergy.
Hope you find something!
