Two billion acts of aggressive driving, or "road rage," occur each year in the United States. In addition, the lack of traffic safety results in millions of crashes each year, taking the lives of an estimated 40,000 Americans at a cost to the public of $160 billion per year.

The real problem is not the aggressive drivers. The problem is all of the idiots who do not know how to drive on the road. Driver's tests should not be a quick spin around a parking lot to show you know where the gas and break pedals are. You should have to go on the freeway during the test...merge with traffic, pass people, etc., to get your license. Then everyone should be periodically tested at random, especially the older you get. Keep it random like gettin picked for jury duty. No offense, but old people that are out and about during the day are the worst drivers and cause the most problems.

Heck, I love how they drive in Mexico. If on a two-lane road and someone comes up behind you going faster, they pull over and let them pass. Here, we feel the need to keep going slow and hold that person up. Then you get mad at them for driving too close...just get out of their way!!! I pull over all the time if someone is on my bumper and there's no passing lane. It's a better situation for everyone involved. I wish they would teach that courtesy here.

Do you ever get mad when traffic flows along nicely? Of course not. What makes driving suck? Other morons on the road that have NO business behind the wheel!

But what would happen to the economy if the state didn't give licenses to complete idiots? Traffic would flow smoother and we wouldn't use as much gas, lowering gas tax income for the state. Fewer taxes from the sale of cars, tires and accessories would come in as well.

Don't forget all the repair shops would go out of business from fewer accidents, traffic cops would be bored, lawyers wouldn't be making six figures on court cases, and insurance companies would go belly up.

So the safety and well being of the general public still takes a back seat to making money, just like you voted for.

I live in Southern California. FIX the Freeways- more space, more car pool lanes. Also- stop bldg homes where there is no infrastructure of roads and business to support them- oh! AND SCHOOLS! and have someone besides an "engineer "design the roadways because they OVER engineer everything and the builders could be adding much more to the money pot after the mess they create with new homes-then at least in our traffic addled minds we could at least see something happening and calm down a bit- as for individuals- ticket them. It should be available to a cop to stop road pigs who are aggressively rude and dangerous- and the ones who drive dangerously SLOW too.....Happy, happy happy. PS Im a stay at home Mom, but my husband drives 1.5 hours each way (on a good day) and has been hit 3 times in a car and 4 times on his cycle (not one his fault) on the way to work in approx. 14 years.....

road rage sucks and is dangerous.fines to the ones caught with road rage and loss of privilege to drive and a long stay in jail for the ones that cause injuries to others or death.theres got to be a way to deal with people with road rage.
a couple years ago our school lost a teenage boy because a truck drove them off the road into a ditch and drove over the back of the car killing the boy and seriously injured the other kid(he's lucky to be alive and walking).
i hope one day something is done about people that can't control
their tempers behind the wheel of a car .cars and trucks can be used as weapons.

We should educate the people about traffic rules regulations and need of safety measures among them. Media has great influence on society all the media persons should come forward to tackle this issue in common. Only public awareness and their concern can reduce this problem. We can organize more programs in school, college, offices social gatherings etc to encourage the people to use safe driving ways .

Mount gun turrents on the roof of cars, everybody will have one. as soon as somebody looks like they are going to do a road rage thing to you, start shooting. Even if you are wrong, there are way too many cars on the road. The other option is to have a voice opeated igniton shutoff, the first F word heard within a car shuts her down. Other words could be used also, stuff used in Conjunction with the F word, Dumb,Dirty, Stupid, mother, etc.

Put 1/4" diamond plate on all corners of a 1 ton 4wd, 1/2" steel tube bars on the sides and front, a full roll cage, a 12" lift, and 44" super swamper tires... then make it a free for all on the road.

It may not solve the problem, but it would make those that like to indicate their IQ to others with their middle finger or cut others off think twice before doing it a second time.

1) once you are past 65 years old, you have to take a driving test each year
2) if you are driving slow, please move out of the passing lane
3) teach people to drive around curves on the highways (you can still turn the wheel at 65 mph)
4) add safer carpool lanes with safer entrances/exit

this is just a start

The "cure" for road rage and aggressive driving goes back to solving challenges in the home life and possibly in ones work life.

It's a shame that we have become an "instant gratification" society. With cell phones and computers, everything is just a click away. We have become to expect all life to be like this and it isn't.

Pressures at work and at home cause us to run behind time on tight schedules. With our daily task list churning in our minds, we take our anger at ourselves out on others by being impolite to wait staff and, while driving, being rude to other drivers.

Until we learn to organize our lives so that we are not fighting the clock and losing, there isn't much we can do to lower the statistics.

give as many youngsters in schools lessons in learning to drive and introduce them to the results of bad driving and road rage as early as possible before they get behind the wheel of a car
