in additional to the answer above, if you like snorkeling, definitely check out Molokini Crater. They have snorkeling trips daily from the Maui Prince Hotel.
Haleakala is great for seeing the sunrise, but you have to be up and ready to depart by 2 or 2 a.m.

Well there's a lot to do. From you can go snorkeling, to scuba diving, to sailing, to parasailing (Basically anything with water) Last time I was there for work the hotel I was in actually offered a private helicopter ride to some of the islands in which it is inhibited. About the food; Don't be afraid to let your taste buds go at work. Everything is pretty much good. In every hotel I know of there is always a nightly luau going on-Enjoy that and meet new people. Everything in the island is a "must see" -There's really no limit nor what is not a "must see". And again there's a lot of "must dos" as well. Just check out the hotel you're staying at and belive me they probably have family packages or couple packages of a lot of things to do even away from the hotel ENJOY!

I just returned last week from my 3rd trip to Maui. You must travel the road to Hana. Take your time. I would buy a book before you go on your trip. I would recommend Maui Revealed by Andrew Doughty. It is very easy to pass right by some awesome stuff if you don't know where to go.Just past mile marker 32 is the Wai'anapanapa park. It has a black sand beach that you must see. Also take the trail that goes to the caves. It is a very short distance and beautiful. While down at the black sand beach there is a lave tube on your right before you get to the ocean. It looks like a cave. It will open up once you go in and it comes out at the ocean. Beautiful! While at the park check out the blow hole that is to the right. I know this is too much info but it will make sense when you get there. This is a free park so take avantage of it. after mile marker 33 turn on Uakea, then left on Keawa to go to Hana Bay. Tutu's is an okay place to eat but expect to pay a lot even by Maui standards. My husband and I spent over $20 on 2 hotdogs, 1 tea, fries, a bag of chips, and 1 ice cream. Walk toward the pier and make a right turn before you get to the pier. There is a trail that if you will be a little adventurous will lead to a beautiful red sand beach. After Hana the mile markers start to go back down. I believe mile marker 45 has a waterfall that you can swim in the pool. Facing the fall from the bridge go on a trail on the right side. There may not be anyone down there but it is a great picture taking place. Definitely go to 7 pools(aka Oheo Gulch). It is past Hana after the 42 mile marker. There is a nice trail on the other side of the road from here that goes to a huge waterfall. Ask the park ranger for info. It will cost 10.00 to go to Oheo Gulch. but it is worth it and if it is raining just sit in your car till it stops, we waited a few minutes and it cleared off nicely. Also, The 10.00 is a national park fee. If you go to Haleakala Crater in the next two days it will work for that too. BTW start early in the morning. I like going all the way to Oheo Gulch first and then when everyone else is stopping at other sites you will have this park mostly to yourself. Then you can make your way back while everyone else is at Oheo Gulch. :)
One other thing. In Lahaina, Cheeseburger in Paradise gets all of the tourist attention as a great place for a burger. But we have found that the locals voted Cool Cats the best. We love Leilani's (upstairs and downstairs) at Whalers Village but the Rusty Harpoon also in Whalers Village was not good. The Dive shop is our fav place to get snorkle equipment. (don't rent from your hotel it will usually be more expensive) Get the mid priced snorkle equipment instead of the cheapest. Go snorkling at Black Rock in front of the Sheraton on Kaanapali beach. The Dive shop that is close to Star Market in Kaanapali(if you are staying on that side of the island) will probably offer you 100.00 to go to a timeshare presentation at a local place. We did this and actually enjoyed it. The guy was polite and accepted "no" pretty good. The only reason we did that was to "pay" for our 120.00 meal we had eaten at Mama's Fish House. I would not recommend this. I think the meals should have been priced at about a third of what we paid. it is a tourist trap. We did not see any locals here. The food needed salt and pepper but it would have offended the chef to ask for it. So we ate our meal and chalked it up as experience. Go to the Iao Needle. Definitely go whale watching. I think the smaller the boat the better. At least that was our experience. Hope this helps . You are in for a treat!

drive all the way around the west side of the island the views are great. there is also a GREAT banana bread stand called kiki's and it is delicios. then also you msu drive to hana as other people have said. also there is the iao needle/iao valley. that was really beautiful and a VERY short walk. also drive to the top of haleakala. its amazing how the temeraturte changes and it is fun watching hang gliders go off the edge. then there is the hike to the 7pools. i did this a while ago and it was fun. make sure you bring a swim suit so you can enjoy the water!!!then there is hanalua beach and it is a little walk, through a beautiful junge into a GREAT snorkleing bay. also there is kaanapalui beach. it is perfect for everything from cliff diving(i went off and its only like 22feet with high tide) to boogie boarding, and even snorkeling! its my favorite place in the world. then up a little north of that is D.T. Flemming beach. it is perfect for boogie bording, at least in june when i go. i also reccomend eating in lahiana, and shopping there. i also have twice gone parasailing in lahiana and if you like that stuff it was a great veiw!!! they even dip you in the water if you want to. also shopping in whalers village then going out to the beach, its in like south kaanapali i think. also see a luau, and if you already have, like my family, we went to this majic show this last year and it was really fun. if you are interested in scuba diving i was certified there, and it was a great program. i hope that i have helped you!

The beautiful road to Hana is a must see. Be sure to leave early in the morning and plan a whole day. The trip is around 50 miles but takes over 2 hours if you don't stop. You will WANT to stop several times to enjoy waterfalls, beautiful blue pools and scenery. Haleakala volcano is gorgeous at sunrise. That is quite a drive too, be sure to take a jacket. It gets chilly at the top.

I think that anything that you would do in Hawaii would be awesome. I agree with the other posters though, the Haleakala volcano and the Road to Hana are things that you just have to do at least once.

I got married in Maui! It was so gorgeous there! I wish we would have had more time on the island, but we were on a cruise so time was limited. We got married in the Wailea-Makena area on the beach (Makena Surf). It's a little resorty in that area, but still AWESOME! You're going to have a blast!
