Im a 16 year old male with moderate acne.(I feel as though Im writing an advertisement for the local paper) The acne just covers my cheeks and chin and my nose is very red and has loads of blackheads. My paarents keep telling me that it will go with time and everyone has spots as a teenager but Ive had them since I was 13 and they wont go away, theyre startng to piss me off (The spots not my parents) . I feel as though I have tried everything, washing my face with soap and water, a load of different face washes, a load of different creams, benzoyl peroxide which I heard about on acne.org, Itried that clear skin regimen but I couldnt stand the stickiness of the moisturiser. I tried witch hazel. Nothing seems to work.(Neither do my parents, lazy bastards) Could you please help me? Feel free to comment on the comedy Ive thrown in, I want to be a comedian?

don't make it worse by scrubbing it raw. see a dermatologist, for sure!

in the meantime find a beta hydroxy exfoliant (like 2% salicylic acid) to use after GENTLE cleansing in the morning; after which you should use a water-based moisturizer. use the benzoyl peroxide at night. some lines (like dermalogica) have prepackaged kits for acne prevention. (maybe do a search for 'beta hydroxy' to find out what ingredients to look for in other brands.)

as for what you would get at the doc...

probably either 1) an antibiotic, 2) accutane, and/or 3) some kind of retinoid cream.

1) will work, but you may have to go on it long term.
2) accutane has given people excellent results, but there is a risk of depression and even suicide in previously healthy people - families and former patients have created a movement against the use of the drug. also, your face gets worse before it gets better.
3) retinoid creams - like accutane, they mess up your face before they improve it, but people have reported great results. i had a tough time sticking to it.

Nothing without a price, unfortunately... wish it were different.

Moving on - for deep cysts, a dermatologist can give you a cortisol injection at the site, clearing up in 1-2 days what can take months in some. These run $20 - 60 a pop (so to speak, hehe. Comedy, right?).

I don't know much about laser treatments, but they're around too (probably very expensive). Personally am wary of them.

But a dermatologist CAN help you. look at the results at this page: http://www.acnetreatmentclinic.com/about.html

Not very funny so think of another career.
Acne is a condition that comes to all teenagers and is due to the hormonal changes going on in your young body. Try going to a sauna as this does give a really deep down clean. Avoid soap and wash in warm water an dry with a rough towel. Use towel once only and wash. This avoids introducing infection into the spots. Apart from that eat fresh fruit and veg especially the green veg. No fatty foods, no burgers and very little butter etc.
It will go soon what ever you do.
Happy New Year.

I have an acne treatment that has won me the best answer three times. Each time, the person said it worked great. I'll copy and paste it below.

Use a hot compress on it, and then use cool water to close the pores. Do the process over and over again, about five or six times. Use soap to wash the area, and then treat it with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. It should be gone within five to six hours.

Hey. 6 months ago my brother could have passed as your twin. He also had severe acne and was getting side effects from the steroidal based creams and lotions being perscribed for him. He heard about aloe vera products through a company called Forever Living Products and started to use their aloe Gel anywhere the acne was. within 10 days he had noticable clearness in his skin and 6 months on he is totally clear. He has now got so much confidence and is a different person.

Don't stress. It's just acne, and if you know how to treat it then all will be well. Try applying facial scrub over your acne/zits/blackheads/whiteheads before you go to sleep and after you wake up in the morning. Make this your top priority!!!! I'm around your age and i know what it feels like. People have singled me out because of my acne. But you know, i started using clean and clear and proactive every night and morning...esspecially with my shower...and all of it went away. But you kinda have to give it some time. Like the first time i used clean and clear my entire forhead started breaking out and it looked like even worse than it did before. But i ended up sticking to it and after a month or so it was as though my skin was as fresh as a babies bottom. (Except i was 15!) So yeah, just try it and see what happens. That's the only info i can give u, good luck dude!

Try any product but the key is the stuff is not going to work the next day. They lie when they say it does! Haha. I use Clearasil and I have been using it for about a year. I use it at night and it WORKS! Just keep using it. My acne is not completely gone but my skin is getting better and smoother! Hope this helps! Good luck!

Im 60 now and have forgotten how rough it can be on teenagers, but go to somewhere like "Holland and Barratt" who will prescribe tablets that will clear your spots from the inside out. When I was a teenager I never got spots(lucky me),but a boy I knew did and use to eat "sulphur tablets" It helped his spots
but cleared any room ,and lost him his mates!!!!Only joking, his real mates hung around, just like the smell.Keep smiling, you"ll always have friends if you have a good sense of humour
