The straightening product should be sprayed on each section of hair before you run the flat iron over it. The sizzling sound is only the heat from the iron drying out the liquid portion of the product. When you use hair oil or moisturizers on each section basically the same thing happens but you don't hair the sizzling sound... you'll see steam rise up from the section. I can't say for certain that using the product before or after the flat iron will cause more harm but you'll get better results from the product if you spray it before. If the product has alcohol in it, it may dry out your hair and perhaps contribute to split ends. Try holding the product further away from your hair so that the hair gets less saturated with the spray before you run the flat iron over it. Also if you are worried about hair damage the new ceramic irons tend to damage hair less as opposed to the regular irons. Also note the more you run the iron over a section of hair the more prone it will be to breaking. Getting an iron that is hot enough that one/two runs over a section of hair is all it takes to straighten it and only spray the product on each section once and use it sparingly. Hope this helps and God Bless.

If you are using a flat iron, then it should be the only thing you need. I have afro hair if I dont use a flat iron and mine gets my hair so straight I dont have to use any other product, although I have come across some irons that dont work very well at all, I think you may need to get another flat iron, the more things you use in your hair the worse it will be in the long run, the iron that I use is Revlon. It should have the shape of a paddle brush on both sides and have ceramic plates, they dont hurt your hair. the highest setting it should go to is 20. Use that setting and do your hair in sections. It will be the best investment of your life, mine is 7 years old and works like new

After you section your hair, you spray the hair lightly prior to applying the heat. You may hear a sizzling sound, but that is okay because the product is meant to protect your hair from the heat and it will not harm your hair. Just don't OVER spray the section of your hair which heat is going to be applied to. Also, a ceramic flat iron is less damaging to your hair (like CHI). Good luck!!

I would do it in sections. Otherwise your hair will get sticky. Ceramic flat irons are not harmful to your hair, especially when you use a finishing spray it protects it.

You an use it with a flat iron if that's what the directions tell you to. It shouldn't be damaging to your hair because it is meant to be used with heat...
