Is it a conventional or guerilla army? Or is it a mix of both?

Just a bunch of untrained guys with guns. The nearest thing would be an inner city gang, provided you added loads of heavy weapons
Thet is the reason that they vanished the moment they had to face an organised armed force.

Basically, you are looking at a Taliban type of government. They put them selves in power, no voting, just we were appointed by allah, and so you have to follow our laws, and if you don't like it, well, we'll execute you, type thing.. The soldiers are poorly trained, unorgaized militias. They are still dangerous in numbers, but any organized military intervention can quell that, provided there no political obstruction.
