I bite my nails .. I tried the nail polish, but eventually end up biting that, too. For 2007, I want to have great nails and hands. I am very determined to do it and my mom says she will support and help in whatever to stop this habit. I also bite my skin near the fingertips. I know it sounds disgusting and unsanitary and that's why I want to stop. I heard about the dangers that lurk around when I do bite it. Will anyone help me and support? Please if you have suggestions, name them as much as you can. And nothing silly please, or don't post it at all.

LoL that's funny because I was biting the skin next to my nails when I was reading that...then when I read the dangers part I thought "Oh shoot!" and stopped haha. And I bite my nails. So I understand. Well I guess I'll give advice to myself and you in this answer :) .
Well you can try getting something soft and put it between your fingers. That's the best thing I can think of. For biting nails, just put some fake ones on.

Good Luck and Happy New Year!

You may want to try getting fake nails put on. They will be so different than your regular nails you wont be compelled to bite them. Just make sure the salon doesn't sand your real nails down or they will be like paper when you remove the fake ones. Or maybe you could could try chewing gum-nothing kicks an old bad habit like a new one.

I've bit the skin around my nails, too (for some reason I leave the actual nail, itself, alone). It can be extremely difficult to break habits like these; the only thing I've found that works is to find another habit. It doesn't entirely solve the problem, I know, but at least it can help your poor fingers. I rub a blanket between my fingers; my friend twirls her hair around her finger and sometimes even chews on that. Habits themselves are hard to break, but everyone has them. Good luck with breaking yours. :)

two possiblilities - one, try using some fake nails, the kind they put on in those nail shops, acrylic, of whatever
two- try using some sort of hot sauce, like tabasco on your nails. Only thing there is you can't rub your eyes either.
one other thing to try - always carry an emery board with you. when you get the urge to bite, file. worked for me.
Good luck, and happy new year

try Sally Hansen's Maximum Growth ...it's fabulous and will help your nails grow nicely after you quit biting them.

If you use fake ones, your nails will be so weak underneath that when the fake ones come off, your real nails will be paper thin and break within days. I don't recommend this, even though they look nice.

Also, habits take only 3 weeks to break...just try and tough it out!

why so stressed?...try to calm down and keep the stress away..as that's what keeps your habit nasty! also supplement your healthy (I hope is healthy as certain foods can make you nervous) diet with multi vit and mineral complex and extra Omega 3 and 6 from organic source only! Also the extra vit C (1gr daily as ascorbat or ester C) will help repair the damaged skin quickly. Vitamin E will help too 400iu daily to have with meal and if you pin prick the capsule you can use the oil as a cream unless the skin is not bleeding or is deeply cut!

I think there is a product out for that...you may want to ask a pharmacist....if you have bitten your nails to a point of some pain...I suggest you don't use the hot sauce method.....it will be painful on your fingers.
