John 14:12
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Lots of people pray for things that never happen. Why does Jesus say that prayers will be answered if they are not?

The scripture does not say that you will get it only if you need it, it says that YOU WILL GET IT as long as you ask in Jesus' name.

Red2: So you are acknowledging that the bible is lying. That means the every word in the bible is in fact NOT TRUE.

Chris C: What if you sincerely pray in Jesus name for a sack of gold coins to appear in you hand exactly one minute from now. Your prayer does not give any leeway in the fullfillment, it is very specific and can only be fulfilled in the manner you specify. If the coins do not appear, the bible is lying.

Is your heart right? Do you have anything against anyone? There are many reasons prayers are not answered. Mainly because what we ask for is not good for us. God will not grant things that are wrong for us. If you are married, you cannot hold anything against your wife or husband. God doesn't even heal every person that is sick. God doesn't lie. The Bible is the Word of God and God cannot lie. Some of us would be better off just by saying, "Lord have mercy upon me." Great faith doesn't happen over night.

God and Man are not on the same timetable. He never said when or how prayer would be answered.
And "red2" has the other part right. If you had a toddler reaching for a glowing hot coal in a fireplace, because the child thought it was pretty and wanted it, would you allow it to reach in and burn themself? But you stop it, for its best interest, and the child cries out yelling that it wants it. You will still stop the child from injury even though the child does not understand being denied the pretty glowing thing.

asking in the name of Jesus- is not a magic wand you wave and He will instantly give you what you want. Asking in the name of Jesus, means you are desiring to pray God's will for the answer, as opposed to yours. Prayers are answered- Yes, no or wait. Oswald Chambers says it better than I can, in his book- "My Utmost For His Highest". "Prayer does not get God ready to do our will, it gets us ready to do His". The passage you quote also says that the answers to prayers will give the glory to God the Father- we as humans do not always know what is best for us and what will bring God the most glory, therefore when we pray in the name of Jesus we are praying so that will happen, even if it is not the "way" we would answer it.

That is the key statement. You must have faith in God that He will do what He says He will do. God does not operate on a clock. Nor does He jump through hoops. He will do things as He sees fit and when He wants to do them. Ask in Jesus name... that does not mean that all you say is I ask in Jesus name for a new car. It means that it is used in the work of God, then if He deems it needed then He will do as He has determined. God works in His way, in His time. We cannot control Him or His works. Prayer works. Faith and for God's purposes are key to prayer.

First of all, you need to read the part in the bible that tells us that Gods ways are not our ways and that Gods understanding is not our understanding.
So, if we ask for healing for ourselves or of others, that healing may be given in the form of earthly death and be given in eternal healing.
If we ask for peace on earth, it has already been given, we must be patient, it has been promised and will be delivered. Our timing is not Gods timing.
If we ask for riches and financial success, we are already promised riches beyond our imagination and freedom from financial obligations for eternity.
So, with that in mind, no matter what we ask for we have already be given it, just in Gods timing and not our own. The bible never states anywhere that we will receive what we are asking for the moment that we ask for it, or even in the near future, it just simply states that it will be given.
Now , that is not to say that some prayers are not answered immediately. I have prayed fervently to catch fish and my prayer was answered on that particular fishing trip. I caught fish as quick as I could take one off and throw my bait back in. It was wonderful and I was very thankful.
It is all about timing, Gods not ours. We tend to be very impatiient creations of God.

Prayers are answered, but God gives us what we need...not what we want. God has a plan and if you have faith in Christ all of your prayers will be answered but you must be praying for good things that glorify God, if you truly have faith in Jesus these are the things you'll pray for...and so your prayers will be answered. Praying to win the lottery or to have a girlfriend are not things that glorify God, so when you ask for these things your prayers are not answered because you're not truly asking for these things in God's name. I always pray for things in God's name and I usually get what I need, what I want isn't always in my best interest and in retrospect I'm much happier with what I got than what I'd be if I got what I'd asked for. A prime example is my girlfriend, for years I had a friend I was dating and wanted things to go forward but she didn't want to. I prayed and prayed that if it was in God's will I wanted to be with this girl...I didn't get her. What I did get was someone far, far greater. My girlfriend is my best friend and the most beautiful person I ever met, we may have our differences but I wouldn't trade her for ANYONE. God gave me what I wanted but in His will and she was much better than what I asked for. I currently live with the friend I dated and we are very good friends, but in retrospect I'm sooo glad we never hooked up. My girlfriend doesn't even care that I live with my ex dating partner...yeah she's that cool! I thank God for her every day and I find myself more in love with her everyday...we've been together for three years and are discusssing marriage! The point to all this is God does answer prayers but you have to let Him answer them in his way...it's worth it! Prayers God had his own way of answering: My girlfriend, My career (I lost my job when I broke my leg and though I was upset at the time I took that time to become a nurse!) My friendships (I have a group of friends that are my family despite my relationship with my own family) My life in general is blessed. Keep praying!

Dear Mr. R:
Is it possible they are praying to the wrong person?
Is it possible their prayers are not deemed worthy of hearing?
This can happen according to Isaiah 1:15.
And according to 1 John 5:14
“This is the confidence that we have toward God, that, no matter what it is that we ask according to his will, he hears us.”
ACCORDING TO HIS WILL.
God is not Santa Claus. Our requests must be in harmony with God's project ....His will.
Lastly, one must act in harmony with their prayers.
No point asking to be made peaceable and then easily let oneself slip into arguments. The individual must also do his part.
If one meets these requirements then .....prayers are answered.

Whatever you ask IN MY NAME. In other words whatever you ask for that is in His will. Not if you end the prayer with "in Jesus name, Amen." The Bible never lies.

God alwsys answers prayer. Sometimes He just says NO! What we think is good for us might not be. And I've heard many testimonies
by people who were let down when they didn't get what they wanted. And later, got something
like it, and even better!

When one prays it's to be in the Father's will. He knows what is best for us always even when we don't. God's timing and ours maybe totally different. He could be teaching you patience...have faith in your father.
