I am a single mom with 1 son who is 13. Ever since the winter came around I felt he had dry skin on his entire body. Where we live the snow is packed and its very cold it, so thats probably what caused the dry skin. His skin almost feels like sandpaper its so bad.
I knew I had to get lotion, so I got Nivea Body lotion, its a new bottle easy to use and it is supposed to break down bad dry skin.
I give him short baths, and I tell him he has to apply lotion on his entire body after his bath right away. I only rub lotion on his back where he cant reach it.
But I noticed that the bottle of lotion is still just about full besides when I do his back, and his dry skin is still excatly the same and I found out he is obviously not even using lotion, his back has improved a little beacuse thats where I did it my self.
The next time I lotioned him head to toe and I thought after that he would want to do it him self. I don't know what to do anymore, please what I am to do?

If he doesn't have a problem with you doing it then I that would be your best bet. He doesn't seem to be concerned with it cause he's 13 and kids at that age go through that. It will matter to him only if a friend or some other kid starts making fun of his ashy skin. Maybe you could some how make hints toward that. Don't out right say it but dig around the comment. Like, "When I was a kid I made sure I used lotion so people wouldn't make fun of my ashy skin". That got my niece to start using lotion on a regular basis. Especially during the winter time.

hmmm, this is a tough one. And "make" is always a challenging verb when we're talking about a 13-y.o. There are a couple of things you might try Maybe he thinks Nivea is for girls; you could let him choose his own lotion at the store. The other thing you might consider is backing off and not hounding him about this: no one ever died of dry skin. It's definitely not suitable for a mom to apply lotion all over an adolescent boy -- he's too old for that. Let him decide how to handle this and pick another battle that's more important. Good luck to you and your son!

OMG you give your 13 y/o son baths!!! He should be old enough to bathe alone!! Your smothering the poor kid! If he likes his dry skin why not let him keep it!? The more you try to force something on him, the less he'll want to do it. He's a teenager, thats the way the are (trust me I know, Im not a teen anymore but Im only a few years past those "fun years") Anyway, soon enough some kid at school will make fun of him and he'll want to fix it. Quit hovering!

I trust the previous poster who mentioned to describe that firefighters, and different adult men positioned on creams. yet extra importantly, it somewhat is a wellness difficulty, and for this reason, after his tub, have him positioned on his undies and then lotion up his hands, legs, ft and chest for him. you're his mom, and there is not something irrelevant with you doing so. could you rub Vicks Vapor Rub on his chest if right here have been very ill? of direction you may, so there would desire to be not something incorrect with rubbing lotion on him. If the exterior keeps to get too dry, it reasons cracks interior the exterior, that may bypass away micro organism and different risky germs into the cracks, which in turn would reason authentic themes for the youngster. So it somewhat is ultimate to go it off on the bypass via using the lotion for him. and since the different individual mentioned, use that factor to ask how college is, or how activities are going, and so on. and interior 5 minutes the lotion is on, his dermis will experience extra helpful and existence would be large. And as that different poster mentioned, use moisturizing soaps. sturdy luck :-)

I would see about a moisture shower jel or soap for his bath without telling him that is what it is for. Boys dont like lotion. Sounds feminine to them. (well most boys) If he uses anything on his body that you can see if it has a dry skin treatment in it switch it. Otherwise I guess he will just have dry skin. Good luck!

He's just lazy,as most boys that age are. When he gets out of the shower, tell him to apply it,stand outside his bedroom door, and tell him your going to check him to make sure he did it.You just have to be an annoying mom at this point!

Boys will be boys. You have two choices, do it yourself, or forget about it. Only as he gets older and becomes a man will he care about such things. I personally would do it for him. I want to care for my boys and show them the right way, even when they don't like it.
