What?! Dont put your son in ballet man, thats sick. If anything make him a cheerleader, atleast you get to look up skirts on a daily basis.

Well, of course it depends on where you live! I have no idea about ballet schools specifically, but when my daughter took dance there were 2 boys in the class.
I think it is great that you are allowing him to explore his interests. Please do not listen to the rude people on here!
In my daughter's class, it was ballet and tap. The kids were ages 3-5. For the recital, they did tap. The girls wore frilly costumes. The boys wore classy black slacks with a nice black top and a top hat with black boy's tap shoes. The boys were in the middle and they didn't do all the same moves but more masculine ones. It was perfect and everyone said how great the performance was.
I would assume if he did only ballet that it would be the same. I'm sure there are costumes that are more appropriate for boys. Plus, think of how successful he can be as a dancer. College scholarships, etc. Good luck! I hope you find a good school nearby.

Any ballet school in a city that has a professional company attached to it as well as a high school age ballet school/class.
ie In Winnipeg there is the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. They have classes for little ones, but also a professional company attached that put on real productions and travel as well as a school-ballet integrated program.
If he is truly interested this is what you will want - best instruction, a program that will follow him through the later years and a known good track record!
REMEMBER - at 5 they need MORE then one interest. Make sure you put him in a sport per season as well. Kids needs sports. ie Hockey in fall/winter, baseball/soccer in the spring. Summer is time off with LOTS of swimming and beach time! Swimming lessons in the spring are recommended as well the prepare for summer beach time!

Why is everyone being so stupid? Being in ballet does not make a boy a sissy or less manly. I praise you for letting your son do ballet, because all of these close-minded losers would most definately not let any son of theirs do it! If I had a son I would not let him do football or any of those stupid, mindless barbaric things that boys are "supposed to do." And as for the ballet school, you'll have to check around the area you live.

my suggestion is not to put him in ballet class even if he really wants to because what happens is when you do that to your son in the future maybe when he is about 9 or 10 people will start to call him a fruitcake or many other name that i cant think of. then after the name calling his self esteem will lower and will feel very depressed and will not find any friends in life because he likes ballet so watch out for his future and one final suggestion if you do put him in ballet class and in the future the things i told you about is true there a time machine to travel back in time to fix it

I would recommend finding a different hobby for him. Ballet at age 5 could possibly ruin his entire life.
Basketball, Karate or perhaps even junior archery would be a bit more manly.
You also need to think of how others in school will react to him...Telling the other boys he has ballet practice after school won't make him the most popular kid in school.

I have to agree with the consensus that I would not put my boy in ballet classes. Its a sissy thing for boys and will cause him to be teased at school. Try gymnastics altho that can still cause some teasing at school for a boy.

If that's what he is interested in, call local ballet schools and ask.

It depends on where you live. There are many ballet schools, can't name them all.
Ballet isn't only for girls but think about it, is it his wish or yours?
