i bought vaccuum packed tenderloin yesterday and froze it for about 5 hrs (didn't know i wasn't supposed to), currently it's in the fridge thawing. We hope to enjoy the filet mignon on new years eve - do we have to throw away the rest of the meat? Or can it be refreezed?

It can be refrozen, but I'd use it for stew after thawing it the second time, or stir fry. Maybe even some chilli or stroganoff.

Due to the fact that a home freezer cannot freeze a product as rapidly as a commercial unit can , you will get some deterioration in product quality.
Since this is a tenderloin that you froze and as such must be served with a sauce you may not notice it .

It isn't a problem to freeze it in the first place unless it was previously frozen. No you can't refreeze it.

You can refreeze with no problems. I've done the same thing lots of times before and its no biggie.

It should be fine. It wasn't completely frozen anyways so you will be able to refreeze what you are going to cook.

you can refreeze it but if you wanna be sure you can just cook it and then refreeze it so that when you pull it out later you know that it'll be good.
