God didnt choose the most awful place on the face of the earth.He is the Almighty.He knew that that was the right place for them.And it wasnt awful.If you read the bible it says that the promised land was filled with blessings of rich and fertile soils.it was a land of mountains and valleys,a land watered by rain.and God would always watch over them.So what makes you think that the promised land was an awful place?

The middle east and Africa was the most advance places in world back then. All the kingdoms where there.
Today, the powers have shifted.
And when God returns to rule the earth, all earth will be paradise and only God will have the power to rule the earth with happiness and joy for eternety. Praise Jehovah God.

You know...looking at it that way, in terms of the resources of an area...God's chosen people could possibly be the Chinese, or maybe Native Americans.
