cause:
since it is blocked, then it is either hard/excessive wax or flu. both will cause pain. but hard wax will lead to infection.
by the way, since you are having pain, the sooner you get your ears checked the better cause it is a sign of infection already which may lead to deafness of the ear after sometime. And if you can not stand noise (like you have to turn down the tv as it is too loud for you but the others feel otherwise) and causes sharp but short pain in your ear, there is an infection for sure.
treatment:
syringing is the common treatment for this condition. first you will have to soften the wax with pure olive oil for about 2 weeks. then your ear will be flushed using warm water. it is painless. if there is an infection an anti-fungal drops will be given.

It sounds like that ear is infected. Hope you can find a way to see a doctor and get a prescription for real medicine to cure it. Doctors are expensive but there's no way around them sometimes. Good Luck with it!

It is more than likely an ear infection. I would suggest that you go and see a doctor. They will offer you a medication.

I would guess so.
Have you had a cold or other illness recently? That might have contributed to it.
I would go to a doctor, just in case. Even if it's not an infection yet, the dr. may recommend something to help it drain so it doesn't become one in the future.

I would say Yes get yourself to the Doctors office right away otherwise you will not have a Happy New Years eve it doesn't cost much to treat it but it will hurt like a bugger and you will be miserable until it is treated.
