this a question for a NY birth certificate. I'm adopted and I'm looking for my birth family. On my bc the recorded district is 1302(don't know exactly where this number belongs to) and on the upper right corner it says bc number...starts with 139 then 69 for the year you were born..but the first 3 numbers what they mean?

Hey chaotic,

In the reference section are NY state Vital Record sites. They include Birth, Marriage, Death and Adoption sites. While no description of the exact meaning of the codes was found, there is an adoption registry (site provided), with the following intro/description:

Adoption Information Registry
If you are adopted, or if you placed a child for adoption, or if you are the biological sibling of an adopted person, you may wish to learn more about your birth family. The New York State Health Department's Adoption Registry can help and even facilitate a reunion.

" work for a bail bonds office and we use the first digits to tell where the defendants were born.. "

Then you are using an incorrect method.

The first three digits represent the state in which the SSN was APPLIED for, not the state where the person was born.

In any case, the asker is asking about her BIRTH CERTIFICATE and not her social security number.

In New York City, the last five numbers on your birth certificate do not change when your ammended birth certificate is filed after adoption. That's why so many adoptees in NYC hit the birth indexes looking for those last five numbers in order to find out their birth name. I don't know if this holds true for the entire state.

139 is a set of numbers that simply means New York State.

The federal government issues vital statistics numerical codes to all states, and some states have more than one number code. New York has 139 and 156. Places like the CDC use these codes in order to compile statistics on things such as infant mortality rates.

The checklist shown grew to grow to be into no longer an incredibly initiate certificates like what you're describing. The checklist presented for Obama in simple terms demands statements from 2 relatives individuals to be generated. No incredibly initiate checklist is mandatory for the technologies of that checklist, it truly is why no facility or well being care provider is listed.
