Dump him. That is a form of abuse, and if you stick around for it, you'll start believing him, regardless of how strong you are, and you self esteem will fly out the window. He knows he hurt your feelings, it just whether he cares or not and it is obvious he doesn't or he wouldn't have made those type of comments to you.

I think there is a problem. He is either interested in someone else or is just plain losing interest. You would not tell someone you love that they look bad unless they are on drugs and you are concerned. I think you should have a talk with him. It almost sounds like he is losing respect for you and it may be hard to get it back. If the the talk doesn't work, then maybe give him some time to see what it's like to be without you. If he keeps putting you down, maybe you should tell him what you don't like on him. He can't be completely perfect - especially when you're mad.

Is this really a question or are you just trying to verify what you already know?
Is this a habit that he has? Does he have a habit of critiquing you and cutting you down, or is this a single instance of how he feels?
If this is a habit he has, then kick him to the curb. If this is just the one time, let him know that it really hurt your feelings and he can tell you in a different way.
Could he be right? Did you get a but-ugly haircut?

I would say he's trying to either:
1. See how much you like him by your reaction to his comment, like, will he see you with more make-up on or with another new hairstyle? to see how much control he has over you.
2. He's a jealous bastard, which kind of man would put a woman down? to obviously make himself feel better?! he has issues.
3. He thinks he should tell you the truth and say you aren't as pretty as when he first met you, and he's not sure of your hairstyle. Which isn't all that bad as relationships should be truthful, but this depends on if he was intending to hurt you or he was trying to say it in the nicest way possible.

We obviously have no insight into the dynamics of your relationship...perhaps he is great in every other way.
It is a tough call and if things are otherwize great then you should seek to talk to him.
Could it be that being direct is the only way he knows?
On the other hand, if you feel that he is a jerk...then your instincts are right and you could do better

Be glad he is honest with you. He may hate your hair cut, that doesn't mean you are not as pretty. He sounds like my late husband, some men LOVE long hair. I guess they find it more feminine. The hair will grow back. Just know that he has a hair fetish and keep that in mind next time you get your hair cut.

Dump him ASAP. Don't let him spend valuable months or even years whittling away at your precious self-esteem. Leave him like the spoiled brat he is. A real man would never do such a thing. I wish you joy, peace, happiness, and, above all, love.

He is rude. If it's not serious then you can do better. If you think it's worth saving tell him he needs to alter the way he talks to you because he hurt your feelings. Telling you that he liked it better the other way is much nicer than saying you aren't as pretty anymore.

Dump him. Some people just blurt out things and they really shouldn't, especially if it's someone that loves you. Don't ever let anyone tell you you're not pretty. He's probably the one who is insecure with himself and he's laying that on you.

Tell him, in no uncertain terms, that he hurt your feelings. You are still you, no matter what kind of haircut you get. If he is so shallow that he cannot see you past your haircut, then get rid of him. He isn't any good anyway.
