what is the relationship between the lenten season and the Roman/Jewish pagan fasting that preceeded a festival around the Easter period .is it to lure the idol worshipers into christianhood.

Forty days in the wilderness takes on a different meaning when we consider that `wilderness`was a pseudonym for the Dead Sea community. Spending forty days with the Essene community is far more likely than the son spending FORTY days trying to contact his Dad via starvation !!

I would think so.............but who commanded anybody to commemorate it?
“Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” (Lu 22:19; 1Co 11:24) From this it is reasonable to understand that Jesus meant that his followers should celebrate the Lord’s Evening Meal. I could see people commemorating this command because Jesus told them to, but the 40 days..........I don't know
