Coat the livers with a small amount of flour (just lightly) add a small amount of oil or butter into a frying pan, add some onions cut into rings...begin frying on medium and fry until your livers are done and the onions take on a carmalized look....really, really good this way!

I agree with Princess, frying them is the best. I like them with onions too, but it is not necessary if you don't. Mom of 2 is also right, you can find them in little tubs in the chicken section of your grocery store and they should not be frozen. I usually take a fork and stab them to death first, lol. This prevents them from popping so much during cooking. I put the flour in a zip-lock bag or bowl w/ tight fitting lid and shake to make sure they are well coated. Add salt and fresh ground pepper or whatever seasoning you like. Then fry in non-stick pan with small amount of oil. Try not to over cook or they will turn out tough and a little bitter. Good luck, hope you like them too!!!

Chicken livers usually come fresh, not frozen, at the store. There will be a number of them in a little tub, maybe a pound or so. I think the best way to cook them is to saute them in a skillet in butter. Very yummy with rice!

The very best way to make them is great Kosher style chopped liver (or liver pate).
Chopped Liver
1 1/2 lbs. of chicken livers sauteed with 2 large chopped onions
5 hard boiled eggs
1 large tablespoon (or more) rendered chicken fat, also known as schmaltz. (You can purchase it in jars at specialty groceries or in the ethnic section of your local grocer)
Salt to taste
Mix everything in food processor. Chill and serve on crackers. As a good side add some good crispy Kosher dill pickles.
It's the BEST! There's nothing to make food flavorful like schmaltz but should only be eaten on special occasions since it's filled with saturated fat.
If you feel lazy you can purchase it pre-made at any Kosher deli. It's worth the trip, trust me. :o)
Edited to add... LPM is absolutely correct. I was trying to give a more common use. We ALWAYS use pump! I'm too lazy to chop by hand. I remember my mother doing that, though.

The one given here by "Janisko" is it ... the best ...except it is supposed to be chopped by hand in a wooden bowl!! ... and served New York deli style, it would go with Jewish rye or pumpernickel bread, a Kosher dill ... and maybe some nice refreshing beer!
