Berber is great for high traffic areas. And the neutral colors in most berbers match anything! Your hubby has good decorating sense. :-)

Berber can tend to grab and hold stains, but is quite durable. It can also be slightly more expensive. Olafin made carpet is cheaper, but make sure you get a tightly woven style to hold up to the high traffic. Stay away from white or gray or even light brown as it will show traffic patterns quickly (I know....I have light brown and a 3 yr old and a 6yr old and the carpet is getting trashed after only 1 year). I would actually look into industrial carpeting as it is made for high traffic and there are quite a few options that are nice. Look for something with a pattern that might be a good fit for a doctors office. Lots of great choices out there. Have fun!

I've had Berber in my last 2 homes!! I will never have plush carpet again! Berber is so much easier to keep clean, holds up better on high traffic areas, and you can go a couple of weeks without vaccuming and no one can tell! LOVE IT!

I have Berber on my hallway stairs and i love it. It is great for kids because its texture gives it a grip that I believe could prevent slip and falls. Berber cleans up nicely also. I have not had any problems with staining. My carpet is not a solid neutral rather has both light and dark fibers which I believe aids in hiding any everyday dirt that builds up with foot traffic.

A Berber can be great or a great disappointment. For the best performance go with a stainmaster or equal nylon. Use as dark a color as you can. Use a stainmaster pad for extra performance. Not the cheapest solution, but the best in the long run. Cost will be $4 to $7 per sq ft installed, plus extra for step labor.

We didn't like berber... we went with a twist. It was summer place by shaw, but I can't seem to find it on their website now. You should try to find a sample and bring it how. Put it down where you want it and walk over it a few times.
