I let my friend talk me into letting her wax my upper lip (it was blonde but looked pretty bad if the sun was shining in the right direction). After doing it I noticed the right corner was really sore all the way over to my inner lip. It started swelling in a dime size spot. She suggested I put some aftershave one it, but all it did was BURN like heck! It started out looking like just a rash, then began looking like rug burn, then turned into a blister, and now looks like a HUGE scab! I cannot go into public looking like this! Any tips on making it heal faster/look better? Also, any tips on preventing this in the future (when I do it on my own)? The rest of my lip looks fine, and she did my eyebrows first and they turned out perfect, no rash or sores at all.

I was afraid too that it might be a cold sore that just happened to be helped out by the waxing so I used Abreva, and it seems to have taken a layer of my skin off completely. I walked around for over a day with a huge raw spot, that is NOW a big scab. I am too afraid to use anything for a cold sore now. The spot that broke out is a spot that she kept having to go over to get little stray hairs in the corner of my mouth.

the wax may have been too hot. i used to have my face waxed and if a person used too hot of a wax, I would get these massive breakouts and scabs everywhere. put neosporin on the scab.

Does sound like herpes simplex (cold sore). Not sure where you are but Zovirax cream is good for keeping it from flaring up again if you are in UK use it when you feel a tingle in that area. Then it could just be a nasty infection that will heal and not return. In future clean area with a mild disinfectant before and after waxing and ensure eveything is properly cleaned.

Lips are very sensitive. Proper waxing begins like this...
clean the area to be waxed with alcohol
apply wax
pull in the direction in which the hair grows
apply presser to the waxed area
gently wipe with an oil (nothing with alcohol it will Burn)
If any blistering occurs, I would apply neosporin

Some antibiotic cream should help with the blister. You can also try some strong moisturizing cream in between applying the antibiotic cream.

actually, that sounds like a herpes cold sore.

the waxing probably just irritated the skin enough to let the herpes get started.
