O.k. first of all you need to get you some paper and a pen or pencil. Finding out the cause of lack of sleep or sleeping to much is a difficult task in and of itself. Start with:
1) How much sleep am I currently getting at night?
2) How much sleep would I like to get at night (different for everyone)
3) What am I eating in the evening and what time?
4) Am I eating to much or to little?
5) Am I consuming drinks that contain caffeine?
6) Do I set a time where I m going to chillout? (mine is 11:00 to be asleep at 12:00)
7) Am I stressed?
8) Am I excited
9) Am I afraid of something?
10) Do I feel guilty?
Sounds wierd I know but try it. Million's of people suffer from lack of sleep and unfortunately it's not pure and simple to just go oh o.k. that's it. Our bodies react differently to different situations. I personally sleep with an eye mask that play's ocean sounds, a loud fan, no phone's on and in something comfortable. Sleep is very important to me as well as I am crabby if I don't get enough. I can tell when I wake up if my body has had enough sleep. If not then I try to get some more but sometime's your body just want's to get up. Why? That's why it's important to write. What do you do when you get up? You may want to write in the evening to give your brain a chance to calm down. Good Luck. E-mail me if you need any further help. I have a book by Deepak Chopra about "restless sleep" and I would be happy to share the name or send the book. '-)

First off if your sleeping 7 hours that is pretty good. Start by cutting all caffiene out of your diet. Including chocolate. I personally am very caffiene sensitive. I can have a couple of cups of coffee but nothing else after my morning coffee. Than make sure your room is dark. NO TV. Put your alarm clock somewhere that you cannot see it. Even the glow from the alarm clock can stimulate some people, and looking at what time it is isn't good either.
Set your alarm for a bit earlier if you want to fall asleep earlier in the evening. Like it or not get out of bed early and go to bed at the same time every night.
Good Luck.

Actually some people that exercise in extremes don't sleep much. Is your baby sleeping at night or is s/he up at all hours also? Is it possible you are worried about the baby and are uneasy about sleeping? Or maybe you can't sleep because of intamacy issues of how you look or feel after having your baby. I had some of these issues and it was a revolving door. You feel like you look terrible and have anxiety about it can't sleep and then sleep when you should be exercizing. Try taking baby out for walks in the stroller. It would b good for you and baby. Fresh air, getting some exercise and boosting your self esteem also. Find a friend that can go with you . A buddy to walk with keeps you motivated. As far as the sleep make yourself stay up during the day. It almost sounds like you have the baby nursery syndrome where baby's get the night/day mixed up. Good luck to you I know it isn't easy. Even with sleep aids you have to be able to be still for a period of time. I have a friend that will stay up for 2-3 days with no sleep and even take sleep aids. As long as she is moving she can keep going. She gets still she is out like a light!

There are lots of good self hypnosis Cd's you can try. Go for a walk a couple of hours before you go to bed. No coffee, no smoking, no TV or hard exercise before you go to bed. Melatonin is a hormone that arises when it's getting dark and you may produce too little of it. I know that in US 20 to 30 million people take melatonin ( which I find strange - is it a consequence of a stressed lifestyle with no rest? ) without prescription. The question that comes to me is whether the modern life affects negatively on hormone balance and production...... Any way, you can try to focus on a candlelight for a minute or two, then you close your eyes with your hands covering them and try to keep the image of the light as long as possible. It's a very good method to calm your self down. Good Luck! Your brain is spinning and needs help to calm down before bedtime.

You sound so much like me! I can remember being a small child and laying in bed all night and watching the sun rise. What I am going to tell you go's against what most people think. When I am going through a period of sleeplessness. I will just stay in bed and rest. Keep the light off, make your bed as Coffey as you can. Sometimes it helps to relax in a warm tub of water fill ed with a Lavender sent bubble bath, keep Lavender sent next to the bed. I have C.D.'s with relax in sounds that I keep on all night at a very low sound. You can get a sound machine that helps make relaxing more comfortable at Sears. If you don't fall asleep don't worry as long as you get a good rest. Stay in bed. You could drift off for a few minutes now and then but most important is to rest.

First of all,get it out of your psyche that you canot fall asleep. The more you think about, the worse it'll get.Consider the example of a person who has stage fear.He has to go and give a talk on stage.THe more he thinks about it,the more nervous he gets. His mind starts brimming with visions of failure and ultimately what happens? He delivers a horrendous speech. He does worse than he would have,if he had not unnecessarily thought about his failure.A very similar analogy applies in your case.
Also,I get a feeling that you are of the serious type. You should go out, socialize, have a few laughs.Infact,a lot of laughs.Laughter afterall is the best medicine.
ALso,start playing games. If not badminton or tennis, start skipping.THat should keep you in shape.
Just don't concentrate on the problem all the time.Forget it,go about as if you are absolutely fine. lo and behold! You will be in the best of health and spirits.

Try less strenuous exercise like walking - it doesn't have to be very strenuous exercise, especially if you are feeling so tired. And maybe avoid/minimize sleeping during the day, as that would make it difficult to sleep at night.

u r mad.. u r killing ur self and ur youth.. wen u become an old rag, u will have no one to blame but ur t.v. set, which will not listen to u in any ways.
forget wat mummy said... and start exercising right after u read this post.
there is no right time for exercising... and i warantty u after the ist 20 mins u start enjoying doing it.
if u sleep during the day, exercise wen u wake up... wait atleast 30 mins before u eat. this way u will be tired enough to get an 7-8 hr of sleep daily... which is the best time.. {if u sleep more than 8 hrs belly will stick out more}. u will feel and look gr8t in no time.
good luck, and if this thing works , dont forget to thak me for saving ur life.

There may be an underline issue that is keeping you up. You probably need to talk to a friend or therapist and go through some recent events in your life.
